hey guy's my family might be moving to Brisbane from Melbourne this will be our second big move as we moved from Adelaide 4 years ago. It's gonna be alot harder this time because the kids are older and our 6 year olds started school this year at a great all boy's catholic. and our 3 year old is going to preschool. I have no idea of suburbs, or schools or anything in brissy I was wondering if someone could help me get some idea of a nice area to live and good schools and pre schools for my boys. thanks so much cant wait to hear from you.:fingerscrossed:

Nice area with a great catholic boys school to consider:-

Kedron/wavell heights/chermside-St Anthonys is the school.
The senior school is just across the road and is called Padua.

Here is it's website:-http://www.kedroncoolschool.qld.edu.au/

For an idea about the suburbs the ourbrisbane website is fantastic also:-

http://www.ourbrisbane.com/

Use the living in link to check out various suburbs.

What suburb is DH's work? Spring Hill is pretty close to the CBD... $$$

I'm on the southside, there are many fellow bubhubbers close by. One of them sends their daughter to the nearby Catholic co-ed, she thinks the school is great.

Noy overly familiar with SpringHill personally but like most suburbs has it is "undesirable" areas.

I suppose it would be classified as inner city-it would be an approx 15 minute drive (against the traffic) to Kedron from SpringHill.:smiliedance:

 Sorry, my goof. Now that I read your post properly, I see you mean he might be working in South Brisbane (ie the suburb) and not South OF Brisbane, as in the map direction.

Brisbane is not as big as Melbourne. I live in Algester, about 12km as the crow flies from the CBD. With good traffic I can be in the city in 25 minutes by car. Peak hour is another matter, but you get that in any big city.

don't really know a lot about which religion the schools are but in South Bris there is St Laurences which is boys and in Spring Hill there is St Josephs which is Catholic and quite a good school. There is also Brisbane Boys Grammar in Srping Hill.

To get to south brissy it's good to live in area like: Greenslopes, Annerly, Stones Corner, Coorparoo, West End. Once again these suburbs all have there ups and downs.

Good Luck

You could live just about anywhere in Brisbane and South Brisbane would be easy to get to. In fact he could walk to the Brisbane CBD in 10 minutes.

Southbank train station is actually in South Brisbane and is on Montague Street, so he could catch a train from anywhere on the Brisbane rail network which runs from all corners of Brisbane and the far outer suburbs and Shires.

I think the best idea is to find out how much you can afford to spend on a house and then see what suburbs fit within that price range. There are many hills in Brisbane and there is a Catholic School on just about everyone of them.

Hi Hillbaby
I don't think there are many Catholic Boys schools that go from Prep to 12. Most seem to start at Grade 5 or 6. There is a Catholic Boys school (from grade 5-12) called Marist Brothers Ashgrove. Ashgrove, Bardon is a trendy place to live (or so I've been told) and is not too far from the city. As many others have said, you could take your pick of suburbs as it doesn't take too long to get to the city.

Hi Hillbaby5.
My Husband works in South Brisbane (Peel St), which is really close to Montague st. We live in Toowong (4km west of CBD), which is perfect for him. It takes about 5-10min by car. There is also a great bike/walk way along the river, so hubby can also ride to work if he wants. It's flat all the way to the city, so an easy ride.
Personally, I love Toowong, since it has good shooping :yelclap:, several fitness centres :smiliedance:, lots of parks and play grounds, is close to movie theaters (see Indooroopilly) and good restaurants. There are a couple of good Schools around (e.g. Brisbane Boys' College - http://www.bbc.qld.edu.au) (http://www.bbc.qld.edu.au%29), even the state schools are good (e.g. Ironside State School).
The only down side is that it is a bit on the expensive side, depending what you are looking for.
Good luck with your search and see you maybe soon ;)

There's Moreton bay Boys College at Manly. It's an all boys school starting at prep. Not sure if it is Catholic, but it definitely teaches Christian values.

Manly and Wynnum would be nice areas to live. They are bayside suburbs, maybe half hour drive to South Brisbane, and on the direct train line. I would also consider most of the suburbs between Manly and South Brisbane nice places to live. The other Catholic Boys schools in the area are Villanova College at Coorparoo and Iona College at Wynnum. They both start at year 5.

Maybe this map will help you with the suburbs being mentioned.

Good luck

If you are after boys only catholic schools there is Terrace in Spring Hill or Nudgee College out near Boondall. Am not sure what grade they start from. Both schools are GPS so quite expensive.

I don't think I would live in Spring Hill, some parts are ok, but some parts are very dicey. Good luck deciding where to live.

hi
for info on suburbs we bought a good book - where to live guides: greater brisbane.

it lists all suburbs (295 apparently!), and a short profile about them all. at the back it also lists all the schools and their websites.

we bought it here in brisbane, but you might be able to get it on line, as they also have a website apparently www.where2live.info

happy house hunting !
