Just a quick question DS is 10 days old and has really dry skin. I',m thinking that is might be the Johnsons Bed time bath stuff i put in his bath! I just wanna know what i can put on his skin to try fix the problem. I have tried the baby lotion in the pink bottle and just started rubbing baby oil in to his skin today! Any advice would be great! Thanks
Megan;)

I thought you weren't supposed to put anything in the bath water or onto their skin for the first couple of weeks? Just plain water?

I would probably stop using the bathing product, it strips away the oils from bubba's skin. The dude is almost 12 months old now and I have never used any product, just water. Have a read of the ingredients on the back of the bottle, I promise you there will be nothing in there you would want near a baby.

For his dry skin I believe olive oil is very good, nice and moisturising and a lovely natural product.

Being winter, bubs probably doesn't need a bath every day either, perhaps just top and tail him with a warm washer?

I agree that plain water is best. If your bub's skin is really dry, esp since it's winter I suggest you use a hypoallergenic lotion. I use Avent moisturising lotion on my DS and never had any problems. I also put a very thin coat of Petroleum jelly on his lips, especially when we go out. The heater in our apartment could be very drying so I make sure he is well moisturised all over. :)

I was told to wash my new born with only sorbolene in the water, no soaps. Also slather them in it once you've dried them.

Also please take care with oils, if your baby / toddler manages to breath some in, it can be fatal and many ppl aren't aware of this. Not a problem for your newborn, but something to keep in mind later.

Alpha Kerry Oil is fantastic for dry skin. DS had lots from being 'overcooked' and it remained dry for several weeks. We added the oil to his bath twice a week and it worked wonders. We use it every now and then.

Plain sorbolene cream is great as well. Apply it after a bath so it soaks in under clothes.

Perhaps take a look at the clothes washing powder too

Johnsons has a reputation for being quite harsh. I used aromababy and gaiababy and found both very mild. I am also a big fan of QV wash, I have found this mild too, my kids bathe in it. Am not sure if it is suitable for newborns though, if you use it, I would just check with the chemist.

Ditch all your J&J. Full of Sodium Laureth Sulfate which is awful stuff.

Plain water is best and Sorbolene for massage.
