Hi all,
i need some help please.
My DS is 7 months old and has a mild case of asthma, this is my first time dealing with it as my other 2 kids dont have asthma at all.
He has caught a virus of his brother and sister which is the flu and now his asthma has gotten worse were he is breathing heavily and is coughing badly.
The predimix doesnt work on him, i have now put him back on the asthma machine and it only helps a bit.
He is also on the purple puffer.
My problem is he is so flemmy that does anyone no of how i can help him with it. He coughs so bad that he seems like he is going to choke.
Can some please help me???
It is so heart breaking watching him like this
Thanks

My 10 month old is showing signs of asthma too - regular diagnoses of bronchialitis (blocking of the small airways) as they can't test and diagnose asthma officially until he is older. He has a ventolin puffer and spacer - which can make an instant improvement when he is at his worst. I also use a humidifer in his room with a sheet made into a steam tent over his cot (doctor suggested) and dimatapp to relieve the post-nasal drip/phlegm down the back of his throat. It seems to help a bit - I sympathise it is is hard to listen to them coughing, especially at night. (My first didn't have anything like this either). It doesn't occur all the time but if he gets a virus or around a lot of dust it is worse.

Just the plain (blue stripe on label) one (colour free). You need a prescription for the infant (under 2's) one. Yes it helps with the phlegm (reduces the wheezy sound and the amount of coughing - although I don't get the one for coughs specifically

thanks for the that.
HUGs, If he is having trouble breathing I would sugest take him to the hospital the reason being is that they can then get him into the ashtma liason team and they will work out an exact asthma management plan for him that you can do at home when ever he needs it and you will also have set out situationss wher you know you need to go into the hospital.

:iagree: My 18 month old has been in hospital twice now and is being treated for infants asthma. After his second visit, we had a respitory nurse come to see us and gave us a management plan for when there are signs of a potential attack. He has a preventative tablet daily called Singulair and at the first sign of a cold he has ventolin at set intervals. So far, it's worked really well.
You might be able to make an appointment with someone similar to customise a plan for your little one?
Best of luck, seeing your baby struggle to breathe and cough like that IS heartbreaking.

DS was the same. THey said they couldn't really diagnose asthma as it's not really possible for babies to actually suffer from asthma?
it was bronchiolitis caused by a virus. Some babies will just keep getting it. Generally, it goes away at 12 months (and hopefully around the warmer weather in your case).
Have you tried a humidifier?
please go to the hospital if the breathing gets really bad - rapid breathing etc. as you dont want the oxygen levels to get too low...
