My DS2 has been having heaps of dreams since he was born but I have noticed lately that he is waking up screaming more frequently and it is starting to worry me.
I am thinking I need to make a dream catcher but was wondering if people knew why or some pointers as to why my little baby could be having such awful dreams?

my son is exactly the same.... he has been since about 8 months and can wake screaming,,, i quickly calm him as we co sleep and he drifts straight back off.... it happens quite frequently and i hate the thought of him having bad dreams... on a couple of occasions i have woken him as he has been sobbing in his sleep... now hes older i have asked him what his dream was he told me the other night that "nanma (his nanna) was walking through clover and might get stung" i like to think its because he is quite switched on and takes a lot in,,, another dream was that the big bad wolf was going to bite his nose... and that day we had read the book...

yeah bad dreams in kids are a heartbreaking thing. my son came into our bed the other night saying a crocodile was crawling in through his window  turns out there was a crocodile on tv earlier that night that he had seen.
so i think what he watches, or what lochibearsmum said, what they read, can be a big influence.
also, my mum said that when my brother was a little boy, she used to give him this drink that was for kids, and it turns out there was something in the drink, like a colour or flavour (something artificial anyways) that was giving lots of kids nightmares. so maybe check what he's eating?? i don't give my kids anything that has artificial additives in it, but maybe there's something he's eating that can affect him that way? i would just check, coz things like that can cause nightmares and stuff.
hope the little guy has some good dreams soon :hugs:

when my sister was 4 she had night terrors, it started when mum fell preg with me. she'd wake up screaming and be hysterical for an hour or so. its quite common... mum just had to hold her untill it passed

I really only feed him fruit/veg and organic products but I will be looking into that aspect of things.
He seems like an old soul so I think he is really switched on like lochiebear, he calms pretty quickly but it just breaks my heart.:( It freaks me out because he is so young and it is pretty frequent.
Thank you all for your replies.

I read that nightmares are caused by an upset stomach, so both diet and stomach massage may solve this problem.
A nightmare however, is different from a general phobia... Such as a fear of the dark and a fear that monsters are crawling around your room.
Phobias can only be overcome by exposure and not escaping. That is, if you run in an "rescue" them every time they scream, they will never "over come" their irrational fear.

Jasper does this too sometimes, screaming out in his sleep and I come in and he's fine.
I've learnt the difference between an awake scream and a sleep scream because when he's awake he clears his throat first and if he's having a nightmare it just belts out of no where.
I go in and put my hand on his chest and he resettles without waking. Or he's cosleeping so I probably just pop a boob in his mouth without noticing.
I do think that bub is a bit 'sensitive' to things. I'm pretty sure he's already seeing things in our apartment, we had a 'visitor' shall we say and bubba loved it. It didn't stay long luckily. I dont like feeling like theres 'someone' else here and I will ask them to leave if I have to
Ah, I sound like a complete nutcase, I hope that others know what I mean.
