View Full Version : What the hell was THAT?

I was just putting the boys to bed. They were both pretty much asleep, albeit lightly.

B was making a bit of noise, so I went in there to lull him into a deeper sleep by patting his back. He sort of mumbled, rolled over and lightly kicked the cot.

And then screamed. At the top of his voice. Like someone was being murdered. :( He didn't stop, and nearly woke up L. I quickly grabbed him up and took him into the lounge, where he continued to scream. I was rocking him and shushing him, but by that stage it had gotten to full blown crying and hysterical screaming. (all in a 30sec time frame)

The only thing that calmed him down was a breastfeed. (Never mind he would have been bursting at the seams- I really don't know where they put it all!)

And although was the first night that I really saw what was happening, that is how I woke up Sunday morning, too. To his hysterical lung bursting screams.

Does anyone know what the hell it was? What caused it??

:(:(:(

DS does that sometimes and I have no idea why.

Sometimes turning on a light helps him to snap out of it, kind of like he's still asleep.. Its horrible. Poor little Beau boy..

Yeah I think the light in the lounge sort of woke him up a little bit and he realised he was in my arms and safe... but it was so weird!! And to happen twice in 2 days? Perplexing!! :dizzy:

bad dream??

ruby sometimes wakes up like this. it scares me so much. and like you the only way to settle her is a breastfeed. handy though;)

was he asleep long? what about night terrors?:hugs:

No, he would have only been asleep for 5-10 minutes, so he would have been in REM, but I thought he would have been a little young for night terrors?? :detective:

And yeah- the bf is REALLY handy for settling them and putting them back to sleep. The past couple of nights I have been up every 30min to 1hr ALL night bf'ing them due to teething. Don't know how I would cope if I wasn't still feeding them!

I have no idea but DD has done this a couple of times also.

Sounds a bit like night terrors, try googling that and see what you find (I would do that for you but I'm on BH mobile)

DS gets night terrors occasionally, it's a bit unnerving!

I think they freak out if they are nearly in a deep sleep and get woken up , just like if you start to doze off on the couch for a few minutes and wake up suddenly wondering S#IT how long was I asleep for:confused:????.
I think their brains dont cant quite differentiate between conciousness and semi conciousness a bit overwhelming for a baby i suppose.

You mention he was teething as well??..... Possibly they were hurting or having a bad dream or jsut woke suddenly frightened him...... DD did this today.... Wasnt really awake when she got up after he nap...and screamed at me for 10 mins when nothing was wrong with her.
