Firstly hello to everyone - I am new to this site. I have a 6 year old son and a 5 month old daughter.

The reason I am writing this is to see if the approach I am taking is sensible. It has been a while since I did it the first time.

As said above, my daughter is 5 months old now. I have been fully breast feeding her since birth but I am now looking at weaning her off onto formula and slowly solids. A few reasons for this decision which include her becoming fussy when feeding and teething also.

At the moment she is on 4 - 5 feeds a day. My approach to the transition is:

Morning feed (between 6.30-7.30) Breast feed
Lunch feed (between 11.30-12.30) Breast feed
Afternoon snack - if she's hungry only (3.30ish) Breast feed
Evening feed (between 5.30-6.30) formula
Betime (between 9-10) Breast feed

The above is how I will start the process and then after a little time take away another breastfeed and replace with formula. The idea is that eventually the breast feeds will no longer be required.

Do you think the above is a sensible plan? How often after taking one feed away should I look at taking another away?

Any thoughts on the above or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

When I weaned DS, I replaced one feed a week making sure that I was alternating breast and bottle to help with engorgement. Depends how quickly you want to wean really. A friend of mine fully weaned in 1 week, and just did a lot of expressing in the shower to help empty the breast to prevent problems.
