Everyone assures me that most parents have this problem.....DS is 18mths and ever since he could crawl (8 mths)he has HATED laying down to have his nappy changed. Its at the point where he gets hysterical (im sure the neighbours think im beating him!!!). He only however does it to me, DH and MIL, for everyone else he is an angel so i know its a control thing. Floor or change table doesnt matter and im getting to the point im too embarassed to even try to change him out in public...

We try singing, distracting, games, tickling, shouting, holding him until he calms down, but 7 times out of 10 nothing works......it just seems to be getting worse

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELPPPPPPPPPPPPP!

Any other ideas apart from sedatives.....although.......:D

I don't remember DD going through this (so either she didn't, or it was so bad I've blocked it from my memory :p) but I've known a few friends whose toddlers go through this. Nobody has ever found any solution, it's basically a case of reminding yourself that it's just a phase, it will pass. Doesn't help you, I know, sorry. You just have to get really good at changing the nappy really quickly, I guess!

Oh I hear you, charlotte is just about six months old now & this is just starting. I'm already really dreading nappy changes. I do remember DS doing it but he was easily distracted, somehow I don't think DD is going to be as obliging  . Will keep an eye on ur thread to maybe scope some ideas too :D

kristenriley - do you live at my house Hehe! I know what you are going through and I have tried pretty much everything with my 16 month old. Floor, change table, lounge, her flip out lounge, even the washing machine! I've tried toys and tv to distract. And the only thing that has remotely worked is giving her a baby wipe of her own to play with. By the time I have the nappy on her, she has shredded the wipe. Then the next fight is to get clothes on her, and the challenge of getting her to leave them on!

I'm at my wits end with this and am thinking of just trying to toilet train her a bit earlier than planned. I'm sorry I can't offer any advice as Im in the same position but just wanted to let you know that I know how you are feeling!

If it's any consolation I'm in the same boat. DS is only 9 months but a big, strong boy and sometimes I feel like I'm in the middle of a WWF bout just trying to change his nappy. Getting him into his jammies after a bath is even worse. Our only saving grace is that at this stage he is easily distracted - but that is getting harder as he gets older.

my ds started crawling at 6 months and rolling at 3 months. he now is learning to run at 14 months lol. i have come up with a way to change his nappy while he stands up :D sounds wierd but it works for us when he wont co-operate lol although now he thinks its ok to run away when nappy comes off lol i have even changed ds while he is laying on his belly lol

I had this problem with DD at around the same age you're all talking about. So much to see and do, no time for nappy changes. Such a busy life the toddler leads!
The only thing that would work, was to get very colourful or those holographic stickers (went through sheets of them). As I'd lay her down, i'd stick one on the back of her hand. She'd be staring at it and i'd do a super quick nappy change.
She started to get a point where she looked forward to what dazzling sticker she was getting the next time, and was much more tame at nappy time.

They do grow out of it, but it does do your head in in the meantime.
Worth a try I say. Hopefully it works for you too! :fingerscrossed:

I like the thinking behind that sticker idea
Gonna give it a burn, my 2 year old boy is driving me insaaane with his nappy change antics, it's hard to keep my cool some days!

I feel for you. My 13 mth old boy is the same since he was 6 mth.

when i went back to Msia in January, I bought this pull up pant nappy which is great. Use it mostly when i am going out as it's a bit expensive. But the one in Australia is mainly for toilet training kids. May be we should ask Huggies to produce pull up for babies. They got that in Malaysia, average cost work out to be around RM0.90. That's probably around AUD0.30.

Honestly, that will be really helpful for babies like ours.:D
