Where do you all shop for good bulk discounts or even cheaper prices for groceries, meat and veg?

mmm, we have a discount chemist in town (Launceston) which sells formula for $4 cheaper than the supermarket!! And when it goes on special, I think it's about $6 cheaper...
other than that, I'm not a very good shopper. Have just started buying the cheaper brand of somethings - cereal and cheese for example. I've found vegie sheds have better prices than supermarkets and the food lasts longer and tastes better!!
:D
Hey!!
So chemist warehouse in town is always cheaper than anywhere else for all those items from bandaids, to womens products to nappies to prescriptions. Also, there's a meat wholesaler out at Glenorchy right near the Village cinema - I haven't been there yet, but I was thinking about heading there today as I'm out that way. Otherwise, there are a couple of meat & chicken whole sale places in Campbell St in the city too!
I'll let you know if I think of any more.

Hey Kristy - Merediths in Margate is much cheeper for Vegies than Woolies or Coles, and much better quality too!
Oh and for meats - Creative Chickens (not just chicken, they sell EVERYTHING and CHEESE..LOL) Behind the Club Hotel in Glenorchy! They are great quality, and very cheep!

Bummer, seems as though you need a car to get to these places, and if I could bus would take a while..... to get to where I am!

Hey Kristy
If you're shopping up at Kingston Town try getting your meat from the butchers instead of Woolies.....
We did this last fortnight and for once have had enough meat to last us the whole fortnight...and for a cheaper price too. The other upside is some of it is pre-prepared like rissoles and schzitsels (sp?) so it cuts down on added costs IYKWIM.
We're planning on going to Merediths Orchard at Margate once a week for fruit n veg so maybe you could come with us? also contemplating going to Salamanca market for some fruit n veg....let me know if you're interested :D
Another thing :o
Steve's been investigating prices on bulk meats and most butchers will supply bulk meat at a discounted price without you having to go to these 'bulk' stores....we were even contemplating buying a 'cow' lmao....they cut it up into all the relevant pieces - steaks, mince etc - and package it into 'normal' sizes and you just freeze it....
The butcher said around $500 could get us enough beef for 6 months .....but you can get smaller amounts like 1/4 of a cow...or a side of lamb ;)

Sammie - If you are coming to Margate for vegies, the Butcher in Snug is very reasonable and very nice too! :) They have bulk buys up on their chalkboard. I havent really read them, but they looked quiet good what I did see.
