View Full Version : Nestle doesn't care about Aussies!!!

Hi everyone
Did you know that in the UK Nestle has removed Artificial colours from Smarties because of a possible harmful effect on the nervous system. The colours which have been removed are made from COAL TAR!!!(like many other artificial colours)
They are not removing them from Smarties in Australia because no one has complained about them. So it is OK for us and our children to be exposed to cancer causing additives. Great!!!

The problem is these artificial colours aren't just in Smarties. They are in the foods we eat every day, like cheese.
Don't even get me started on Nestle.

why not Mumtoone
Yukky chocolate anyway!!!
I avoid all that stuff for DD, those bright colours freak me out  I would hate her to eat them.
I don't think it is correct to say that Nestle don't care about Aussies. More correct I think is that they don't think we care about artificial colourings. Time to prove them wrong, perhaps.

Nestle dont care about anything apart from parting you from your money.
They have been the focus of boycott calls for years due to their poor ethics when it comes to marketing.
Its simple GIVE NESTLE THE BOOT.

You are right. It is not only Nestle that is putting harmful chemicals in our foods. Most of us are unaware of the dangerous substances that we are consuming and allowing our children to consume. If they remove the colour in one country, because of its dangerous effects, then they should do so for every country.

Yep yep yep yep yep! I boycott Nestle...I refuse to buy any of their products, and they own a lot of companies now too.

Treading lightly here as DH works for Nestle, but half the stuff that we eat or use every day causes cancer. Even using a BBQ in the summer causes cancer. So I'm not going to stop eating blue smarties just because they cause cancer. Then again, I do prefer M&M's...........

Nestle HAVE stopped producing the blue Smarties until such time that they can find a natural alternative - as they have for the other colours.
This was reported in the Courier Mail in Brisbane a few weeks ago. You can find the article on their website if you have the time to look for it.

As I hail from the UK, I have to say that when we moved to Oz is was very noticeable that artificial colours are much more freely used here. Everything seems to glow.
But I'm quite partial to the odd carcinogen:rolleyes:
Nestle do have a somewhat dodgy reputation, unfortunately I'm unable to boycott chocolate producing companies owing to an unsupressable addiction to the stuff. Oh how I wish I had stronger principles.:banghead:

So i guess now that Nestle are off the hook you want to start another bandwagon.
Not all of them are artificial a lot are actually naturally occuring.
So many things these days are carcinogens.
If you want to be pedantic about it then you must be lacking any foam in your lounges or bedding.
How about cleaning products ?
Do you even use a mobile phone, t.v or microwave ?
What about ice-cream ?
Seriously we are all going to kick off one day.
I lived on Smarties as a child & if im going to get cancer im going to.
It has more to do with the fact my father, two grandfathers have died from it & i can tell you this wasnt because they ate Smarties.

Don't forget about your computer monitor...electromagnetic fields.
Bloody Nestle...if they weren't making blue Smarties you wouldn't have to be sitting at your monitor warning us - therefore not exposing yourself to electromagnetic fields...
then we wouldn't be sitting at our monitors reading it - therefore not exposing us to electromagnetic fields!!!
Why is Nestle trying to kill us...bad Nestle...bad bad Nestle!!!!!

Just getting off track for a second (puts burning effigy of Nestle bird/nest aside)...
my Pop was convinced until the day he died that he got emphysema from the dust from his Weeties!!!
Nabisco made Weeties - were they bought out by Nestle?
So indeed...Nestle killed my Pop!!!

We're mighty chipper considering Nestle owns everything and they're trying to kill us!
They probably put an addictive chemical in their food so we crave it and a brain wash additive so we don't realise what it's doing to us...
I bet the American Government has something to do with this...not to mention the obstetricians!

Nah its all the subliminal messages on t.v that tell us to buy it cause as we all know the government is in on it also im sure they receive kick backs for it just like they must do from the Ob's who are making a killing ( hrmms is that the right word for this ? ) with the money they are making & then you have the pharmaceutical companies lying to us about immunisation so they must be owned by Nestle also spreaing lies lies lies !!!!!
Its all one big conspiracy !!!!

You might want to stop feeding your cats and dogs too, because they have artificial colourings in their food as well.

my husband.. bless his cotton socks... decided that the latest brand of dog food that we bought for the dogs wasn't colourful enough for them and therefore must be bland and yucky.
He now mixes gravy for them before each meal.

I just mentioned Nestle because of the fact that they made a change in the UK and decided not to make one here because many of us are ignorant. I just finished a block of Nestle dark chocolate! My children are not old enough to know what is in the food I am feeding them. I have to make decisions for them now which will affect them in the future. I don't give my children any lollies or chocolates with artificial colourings because of the effect it has on their behaviour. Many of the natural colours can also affect behaviour and some children who allergic.
I am not telling anyone to stop eating smarties. Do what you like. And sure there are dangers everywhere and I am probably exposing my children to them, but I at least have control over what I put in their bodies.
My kids aren't missing out. They ask me first whether something has chemicals in, and are happy not to eat it if I say yes.

10-07-2006, 09:23
So i take it then you dont eat normal chicken because of the hormones pumped into them ?
Sorry but im just curious here.
I have never understood why people scare their kids so much they have to ask whether its ok for them to eat something first & then i cant understand why you would then be eating such products around them yet telling them its bad.
Doesnt that sort of counteract it ?
How do you think your child feels seeing you eat something you have told them is full of chemicals ?

I checked the chocolate before i bought it and made sure that it didn't contain any nasty chemicals, and even if it did, I don't eat it in front of my children.
I feel it is better for me to explain to my children why they cannot have a particular food, and i don't tell them it is going to kill them.
I am not on a failsafe diet, which means absolutely no additves, I am only starting out on this quest to ensure that i am not poisoning myself, husband and my children, and I am not trying to tell anyone else what to do. I am merely putting it out there for anyone who is interested. Anyone who is not can perhaps visit another thread, rather than making fun of those of us who are interested.
Hope you have a great day. I am off to make sandwiches for my kids with preservative free bread!
Nestle don't care full stop, if you ask me.

i am reading the fact sheets on the fedupwithfoodadditvies (SP?) site and its so intresting.
pherhaps someone should start a petition to make nestle take notice?
edited to add: i get asthma attacks from red cordial is that a similar chemical as the ones in smarties?
No
The colours in question for the smarties were blue and yellow, there is no natural colouring that can produce the blue colour, hence the use of artificial colouring.
Your reaction to the red cordial would be to a different agent.
Cheers

They don't actually know what they are and what they do to them. If my 4 year old daughter wants a particular product and I say 'no' , she wants to know why. I simply tell her that is has chemicals in it that I prefer she doesn't have. She is more than happy with that answer. (My 3 year old on the other hand wouldn't have a clue) She asks a lot of questions and I always try to answer her with the honest answer.
I would also like to thank the moderator for stepping in. I did not start this thread to preach to anyone. I just found it interesting and thought someone else out there might too.

Hi Jess
There's lots of info isn't there. There is a little wallet card that you can print off with the numbers of additives to avoid (if you want too). You could check your red cordial and see which ones might be affecting you.
 Thanks for the info, I found it interesting!!

From what I know there has been many, many groups protesting against Nestle for many, many years. It is a slow fight as the company are just so huge. The best way to personally protest is to boycott the products that the company makes. I'll go back and see if I can find the thread we had going recently that lists all of Nestle's companies.

I don't think that's going to happen...that's what people don't realise - they may be a huge company...but they're a huge company which employs thousands of Australians...Australian families (like you) who depend on their wage from Nestle to survive.
FourAngelKisses

I doubt it will happen either, although the future of his job is looking pretty insecure, which is a worry because it is the only place for about a 100km radius that employs unskilled workers. Anyway, I just want people to realise that it's all very well and good to tell everyone to boycott a business, but how would you feel if it were a business that you or your partner worked for??? When you are relying on one wage with 3 kids to feed, you need to make sure you or your partner has a secure job.

Exactly !
This boycott has been running for years now & hasnt made one little difference infact they have only become stronger & taken on a bigger market buying more & varied companies.
I would rather make a difference in the world another way than boycotting a company who doesnt even care if this happens because there are millions more people buying their products !
I hope your hubby doesnt lose his job :hugs:

I don't honestly believe botcotting Nestle is going to make a huge impact on the company itself. For me it is more about making a personal choice not to support a company that I have ethical issues with. I don't for a second doubt that feeding a family on one wage is difficult. We are in the very same boat and I count my blessings every day that we are fortunate enough that my DH works for a small employer.
I really hope your DH doesn't lose his job. It is very scary trying to imagine what would happen if my DH lost his.

The Original Nestle Boycott was responsible for the development of the international code of marketing artifical infant milk formulas. Which they have been fined for breeching several times since the countries signed on to that agreement. The artifical infant milk formula companies owned by Nestle are renouned for selling expired milk powder to 3rd world countries undermining the health of the babies in those countries whos mothers dont have access to clean water to mix the milk powder with, they ruthlessly market the powder as superior to under educated women and provide the hospital with free product to offer to women in hospital preventing them from establishing supply. This is the code by which Nestle operate they are ruthless and money hungry with no social ethics..................the CEO of nestles companies dont care if your husband looses his job. Same as the CEO of Shell/Moblie/Caltex dont care if my husband looses his job they are just numbers on the bottom line.

Of course they dont all big companies are the same but if there is a down turn of theor products due to them not selling this then means people start losing their jobs .
Yes we all know about their practices with the formula & i dont think any of us hear think what has happened or still happens is acceptable but i think a better way of making a difference is to support those organisations who are in these countries trying to make a difference.
We need to educate etc in these countries when it comes to many things this included but how about immunisations or even making many of our well known drugs more easily accessible.
Im not saying that no-one here isnt doing any of these things its just that i think a bigger picture needs to be looked at when a company is obviously not fazed by this on-going boycott & in fact it seems like they are laughing at it.
So how about doing something different changing it in some way to turn the tables on them because what is happening now isnt working.
Im always hi-jacking you know this MD :devil6:
