View Full Version : ???'s about sleep school
Hi
I have notice that a few people have mentioned sleep school in there posts or threads.
I was jsut wondering:
1. What is it?
2. What to they do/teach you?
3. How to you get in?
4. What sort of reasons people have gone to sleep school for?
We are having issues with DS not going back to sleep at night in his own bed, and was just wondering if this should be something we should look into.
Thanks
Belinda

1. What is it?
It is basically a place where you stay for the week with bubs, and the CHNurses, teach you how to settle your little one, food is supplied, and you share a room with bubs. There are usually another six mums there as well.
2. What to they do/teach you?
The first night you are there, they will respond to bubs for you so as you can get a good nights rest, the next couple of nights, they assist you with settling, then the last 2 nights you do it on your own... Our little one responded really well by the second night... They speak with you on your first day, to go through with how you would like to settle ie. patting to sleep, if you want to give them the opportunity to sleep(depending on the type of cry)
3. How to you get in?
We spoke to our local CHN, we had to do a day stay first, then because that wasn't successful, we were put on the waiting list for Riverton... You might be able to ring Riverton direct and ask for advice ph: 3862 2333 to see if they can get you in without going through the health clinic.
4. What sort of reasons people have gone to sleep school for?
There are many reasons mums go there, when I was there some of them were - baby not settling, constantly waking up, getting rid of the dummy, weaning from breast to bottle.
Hopefully I have helped you a bit, if you want to know more feel free to PM me.
Cheers
Thanks Harmony I think I will look into it a bit more and see what else I can find out.
If bub conitue to wake I will give riverton a call.
One more question though. I am a full time workign mum so do you know how a week stay would work for us?????

Hmmm not sure. You may have to take it out of your annual leave, or perhaps they would let you do what you would normally do during the day and return there at night... Probably a good question worth asking!
