my DS goes to daycare 2 days a week and is lactose intolerant. and the staff have been great at making seperate food and stuff for him. but yesturday when i went to pick him up there was 2 new staff in his room doing afternoon tea (sandwiches) and DS normally has wholemeal bread without butter when the other kids have this but he was given the same sandwiches as the other kids and i was also told he had tiny teddy biscuits.
if he wasnt so sensitive to dairy (and soy) i would be fine with this but obviously these staff havent been told DS isnt meant to have dairy at all.i spent the night changing a million nappies coz he got the runs from it. i'm just glad he doesnt require an epi-pen.
what should i do?should i say something?

Jess,
That is terrible, i think you should have said something straight away. Your little boy could have been more sick. Its not on.
If i were you i would speak to the manager on Monday and find out why there was a lack of communication between the staff.:shame:

Hi Jess
You have every right to be angry and complain about the situation. There should be an allergy/intolerance notice somewhere for new staff. What if a child had a life threatening allergy?

uh... YES!!!! Say something, dude I would YELL something!!!! It sux that you were up all night changing nappies coz he had the runs - and poor little bubba's tummy and bum must have been so sore from HAVING the runs!!!!
I wouldn't be sending him back, if I was in your shoes. In fact, I'd be calling the Director, putting in an official complaint, and threatening to call the accreditation people.

Is it possible that these were temp/relief staff who were filling in during school holidays? The first childcare centre I tried, it happened to be school holidays when we started and the level of care was shocking. When I spoke to the main staff at the desk she was completely surprised by it. My complaints about the food situation were greeted with "on school holidays we run a different menu because we don't know how many children will be there". Huh? How can you plan staffing or food at all if you don't know how many children are booked in?
I'm a little off topic there, but I do wonder if supervision tends to decline a bit during school holiday period when there may be more temp staff. Even so, that's no excuse for allergy requirements not being followed. I agree with the others: Talk to the director, put the incident in writing to them, and if you are still concerned about it happening again you might need to look into another centre.
Jess
Another thing to consider if you are really worried is a shirt by a company called Star Allergy, they have on the front what the child is allergic to and he could wear that to daycare and it would be in their face ALL the time :)
Their webpage is here http://www.starallergyalerts.com.au/
Good luck with your talk to them :fingerscrossed:

i think the company who make them should get a story on today tonight or something :) they would gt lots of business.
with putting the incident in writing would i just write the date, and what DS was given and how he reacted?
