I am going crazy with my 3 month old son, he will not sleep. It can take upwards of two hours to settle him to sleep and then if i am lucky he will sleep for half and hour.
At night he will sleep from 8 until 3ish but during the day he wont sleep at all.
He is so tired he screams but wont let himself go to sleep. I have tried all of the usual methods (Dark room, wrapped, rocking, singing, sleep cd, complete quiet, white noise, breastfeeding to sleep and co-sleeping) with no success.
I feel like i am going insane trying to settle him for the better part of the day whilst trying to care for his 3 year old brother.
Please someone give me some other options - i am desperate.
First of all, hang in there :hugs:.
I know he is getting a bit big for this but does he settle in carrier of some description? I used to walk F in the ergo to get him to go to sleep and stay asleep for an hour or so - could your 3yo walk with you/go in the pram while you carried him?
I know this is not a long term solution but it might give you some immediate relief. Do you have a local good health nurse you could talk to? We went to a sleep school day stay run through a maternity hospital when F was 12 wks and it really helped us.
Have you ruled out any physical issues that might be causing him pain? Have you cut all stimulants from your diet (my boy was VERY sensitive to caffeine in any form, I couldn't even have a single cup of tea without it affecting him)?
I know everyone says you need to put them down at first tired signs, but eventually I realised that didn't work for F and he needed to be quite a way down the tired path before he could go to sleep. Have you tried changing around when you try to put him down? First signs, tried letting him go a bit longer. At that age I found around one and a half to one and three quarters worked for us. Anything before that and we didn't stand a chance.
Sorry, I can't really think of anything else. Good luck

Thank you, all the suggestions are very useful and i will definately try some.
After one of the worst days where he has only slept twenty minutes the entire day, he went down tonight with minimal fuss (only forty minutes of settling and only a few whimpers with him actually falling asleep in the bassinet not my arms).:smiliedance:
Now if only we can doing this during the day i will be sooo happy.

Of course today he is now going down like an angel:) (about 20 minutes of rocking and settling for about an hours sleep) and sleeping alot. I am not doing anything differently. Maybe he is finally accepting sleep. Thanks for all the tips, i am sure i will need them in the future....
How long after he wakes up in the morning do you put him down first his first day sleep?

:iagree:Exactly
He wakes up around 7.30 and i start trying to get him down around 9AM. Last night he settled in his cot with me stroking his head which is a first, normally he will only sleep in my arms.
He has gone down this morning in his bassinet again with me there stroking his head, it only took a few minutes so hopefully we are onto something i can actually do to settle him:fingerscrossed:
Thanks everyone
