Hi!

I feel really stupid :( but I have to ask in order to prepare...

What things do I need on the change table?

So far all I have are bubba's MCNs! :D

In desperation I can say that no family members have bubbas yet so I'm the first one so I'm just learning!

Any help is great help!

Thanks!

Hi..

I like to keep the wipes and nappy rash cream and also some powder on the change table. I know u are using cloths so I would keep the inserts to use when bubba gets a rash and u need to apply cream.

Also i used to keep Tobys singlets there when he was little as i would often forget to put one on and would have to undress him again.. which is a PITA as they are hard enough to get dressed :) lol

For MCNs...

MCN-friendly nappy rash treatments. I used fleece liners to protect the nappy, so we used Paw-Paw Ointment and curash powder.

Wipes.

I really can't think of much else you'll need tbh. lol.

I have a bit of a change station in my house!

Hanging on baskets next to the change table are all the nappies - AIOs, prefolds, inserts, covers etc. In the top basket I have cut up squares of terry towel and a bottle of water for baby wipes (heaps cheaper than buying wipes if you're already washing nappies, they just get chucked into the nappy basket.)

In the little compartments on the side of the change table I have nappy pins, dummies, bepanthan, paw paw ointment, some toys (finger puppets )

Underneath my change table I have face washers, spew towels and bibs, because they're all things I need to be able to grap quickly. On the bottom shelf of my change table I keep all my spare disposables and terry towel nappies folded in case I run out of prefolds and AIOs before I wash them.

On the shelves I have next to the change table I have a basket with powder, nappy liners, baby wipes a tissue box and some other random 'stuff'. I also have a small rubbish bin with a lid for when I use disposables or baby wipes, tissues etc. in bubbas room.

Its taken me 10 months to accumulate so much 'stuff' around my change table though.

When Jasper was born the only significant difference to the set up that I had was that I always kept singlets and PJs on the middle shelf of the change table - and some t-shirts and things as he was born in November, because in the middle of the night when he's had a poosplotion or just a nappy leak or vomit, or sweaty or whatever it is, it was good that PJs were only an arms reach away. I didn't have to go through his draws to change him. That was a big . Now that he's big I just put him on the floor and he runs off and then I find his clothes and chase him down to dress him

Nappies are in baskets under the change table and a box of wipes on top. I'll be getting a caddy thing to hang on the side of the change table for the paw-paw ointment and powder.

I have a change "cupboard" (on wheels) rather than a table, cause we change DS on the floor next to it. What we have on/in it are:

A box of tissues for preliminary cleanup of poo
A box of baby wipes (a huggies box that we refill with eco wipes - cause the box is so easy to operate one handed)
A pile of pre-folded nappies
A box of liners
A few pilchers/nappy covers
The sample tub of nappycream we got in a bounty bag (still only half gone after 5 months!)
A small pump bottle of hand sanitiser (in case I need topick him up before I've had a chance to wash my hands after a dorty nappy)
The nappy bin is on the floor next to it, and next to that is a benchtop size tidy bin for the dirty liners and wipes.

I also keep handy a change of clothes for him in case he does a supersoaker poo, so I can get him cleaned up and dressed again without having to leave the change area.

We never seem to need spit cloths but on the odd occasion he spits up there's usually a terrycloth nappy handy to mop it up with.

(Oh, and deep inside the cupboard is our pack of nighttime disposables - I hate seeing them in my house, so we hide them LOL)

We have the soft plastic covered change mat with a soft cover over the top (It's like a fitted sheet type thing) as well as:

*Nappies
*Wipes
*Nappy bags for dirty nappies
*Bepanthan ointment for nappy rash
*Hand sanitiser

I think that's it... someone above posted that they use powder. It is not recommended for use on babies anymore as there are links to cervical cancer in girls among other things.

We have a change table with some little tray things along the side and two shelves underneath.

In the side thingys we have any creams that she might need (which is hardly ever) and also some spare bath stuff, a thermometer, baby Vicks and also saline nose drops for when she has a cold.

Underneath on the first shelf (this shelve has three larger trays in it) in the front tray I have her night time nappies all stuffed and ready to go (Baby Beehinds Magicalls with tri-fold bamboo insert). In the middle tray I have her nappies that she wears for naps (itti bitti d'lish sewn-ins with a mini booster) and in the back tray I have spare boosters, wipes etc.

In the bottom tray I have her spare bath towel, her pile of terry towelling cloth nappies that we fold in half and are used for her to lie on (the change table is plastic and cold!!) some flannels and the smaller MCNs in vacuum-sealed bags ready for next bub.

Our wipes used to sit at the top of the table but she's too long for that now so they sit on the dresser next to the change table.

DD is a nightmare to change so I have to have everything at hand and ready to go, because it's Greco-Roman wrestling time whenever it's time for a nappy change! :D

Oh, and her normal everyday nappies (also itti bittis) are in a nappy stacker which hangs on her wardrobe door to the right of the change table. Easy!

We have our change mat on top of bubs chest of drawers (I'd recomand a vynal change mat over a cloth one, they are colder but easier to wipe down when bub wees, poos, or vomits on it)
in the top draw I have
- nappies
- wipes
- bepanthan
- paw paw
- corn startch power
- cotton tips for applying the creams

In next draw down I have all of her singlets, bibs, socks, etc
next one down all her body suits and wondersuits

I have a pitcure frame at her eye level and I have a hang down toy for her to grab when she is older ( it's on a spring so she can play with it with or with out my help )

next to it I have a bin and a hamper

Hi safarifun! I have a change table that has a cabinet at the bottom and a shelf in the middle. The shelf is taken up with MCN's. Hanging off the side i have a bin and a container for the wipes tub. Then i have 2 small boxy things, 1 with cloth liners and the other with any creams etc.
Ikea have lots of little storage organiser thingys and i got the hanging bin and other thing from the childrens section.
Have fun; its so exciting setting up the nursery!

My change table has ended up more as a storage area. As I live in a two storey home most nappy changes happens down stairs on the lounge room floor. Only night nappy I just have a second supply in the kitchen.

Be careful with powder as it can block the pores and has caused an infection in the anal gland of our little DS.

Hi I like my change area to be SUPER organised. Have you had a baby shower yet??? I didn't bother setting my change table up until after the baby shower. My set up:
I have a change table with two shelves and a low set of draws next to it. On top of the draws I have 3 boxes. In the first I have my prefolds, boosters and covers. The nest I have my spare snap in inserts on the bottom (I have 6 spares to save $$ and make drying time work for me) and my made up itti bitti d'lish nappies on top and the third box has bibs in it. In front of one box I keep my huggies wipes and hand sanitiser (to clean hands until I put bub on the floor and go and wash them)
As for my change table. I hate the surface of my plastic mat. It looks ugly and is cold on bubs butt in winter and will be horrid under a hot bub in summer. So I have (4 bright coloured) towels which I put over the mat and tuck in. One goes on the mat and the rest are folded up and put in one pile on the bottom shelf.
Also on the bottom shelf I keep my fleece liners (to use in my MCNs if bub gets nappy rash), bub's face washers, bath towels and my terry towel nappies (I have cut them in half and overlocked one edge - i fold one in half and put it under bubs butt before I take the nappy off. It makes it so I don't have to change the towel as often.
On the top shelf I keep all the things I got given at my baby shower my spare wipes, disposable change mats, nappy sac bags, bath washes, oils, baby cotton tips, in a little basket I have nail clippers, tweezers, saline spray/aspirator, infacol, no touch thermometer, etc. Then close to the front I have my disposable nappies (for nights until I finish my night time nappy stash) and nappy creams/powder.
I have gotten rid of all the normal nappy powders. Now I only have ones that contain corn starch. If I use powder (very rarely and only in his skin folds) I apply some to my hand away from bub and apply it to the area. The talc part is what is linked to cancer and other problems, cornstarch based powders don't contain talc.
Next to my change table (on the floor) I have two nappy buckets with lids. One for my mcn's the other lined with a plastic bag for my wipes & disposables. My clothes hamper is also in arms reach.
I hope that helps...
2 things I couldn't live without for my newborn are bepanthen cream & huggies newborn wipes. These were the only things that worked for bub without getting a rash. The newborn wipes come in a blue packet 144 wipes for $9 and have a photo of a newborn on the front. Once my DP got the sensitive and newborn wipes and DS reacted to them. The plain newborn ones were a lifesaver.

Please take these off the change table and anywhere else and put them up on a nearby shelf where bub can't grab them. These hand cleaners can be very dangerous if kids get hold of them and drink any. It is easier to move them now than wait till bub reaches the age of grabbing and moving around on their own.

We had a change mat on top of a chest of drawers like someone else described.
top drawer: nappies, wipes, terry flats which I used to cover the vinyl mat, rash creams. middle drawer: all clothes. I loved having these in reach.
Bottom drawer: bibs, wraps, towels, extra nappies.
I didn't use powder of any sort.

Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for helping me understand what I need at the change table!

I like to be super organised as well so all your pointers have been noted and I will definately be making a mixture of ideas come to reality from your help.

Thanks heaps & have a great day!
