My baby girl is sick, i had to pull an all nighter last night, she just cried and cried and cried all night long. (she is 8 months old)

I tried the usual medicines but it did not do a thing!

Anyone have any tips? I think it's just a really bad cold or flu, she has a runny nose today and is generally not herself, so i have a feeling tonight may be hell as well..

I'm so tired

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

i generally sit in the rocker with my dd. we slowly rock and rock and then when she falls asleep i just sit and have a nap too. or we lay on the lounge with her on my chest. just wrap up in a blanket and we both doze on and off. we have done this a couple of times when she has been teething.

Is your bub breastfed? Whenever Andrew is sick with the flu (thankfully not often) and out of sorts, I just feed him on and off until he settles. He likes the close cuddle, very soothing and breastmilk is one of the best sedatives!

It might not help at night, but I know that Andrew sleeps a lot better when he has a stuffy nose, if he is upright. So far the car seat provides the best angle for him to be able to breathe properly and fall asleep. You could try elevating the cot mattress with something underneath it also.

Hope she is feeling better soon, and that you all get some sleep!

My DD had her first cold awhile back and hasnt had one since :fingerscrossed: but this is what worked best for us.

Firm pillow under her cot mattress to elevate the top of it.

Warm bath.

Baby Vicks

Warm bottle and bed.

This helped her go off to sleep and when she woke i would give her lots of cuddles then repeat the proceedure.... goodluck... its horrible i know cause you can only do so much.... i mean how do you get a 8 month old to blow her nose :banghead:

Oh another thing.... if she has a blocked nose try Fess Saline Drops.

Don't mean to alarm you but everytime my DD has creamed all night she has had an ear infection as well as a cold/flu etc.

Maybe a trip to the Dr wouldn't hurt.

Otherwise baby vics is good and plenty of cuddles in an uproght position.

I was going to say ears too. Crying all night long means something is hurting so much that she can't sleep. I'd go to the GP, or naturopath, and get her ears checked out.

Dear Savanna, You poor wee mite, it's horrible being sick when you're so little you don't understand what is happening. :hugs: to bubba, and to your strong mumma :hugs:

My dd is nearly 11mths and she is sick this week too. All i've been able to do is cuddle her to make her feel a bit better. I;ve been to the dr twice and the hospital cos her temp was 39.3. They all just said its a mixture of teething and a cold. The only thing they advised me to do is keep up the fluids and use panadol and nurofen to get her temp down.
Its so hard when they are sick :hugs: to you. Hope she gets better soon.

Maybe try using a vapouriser in the room as well. When my DD gets a cold I get out the vapouriser and put it on all night. It helps quite abit.

I have vapouriser too. It is definitely worth the money. I have had mine on in my daughters room the past couple of nights, and it has really helped to clear her nose whilst she sleeps.

We've just gone through the same thing :( We propped up one end of the cot, had the vapouriser running, baby vicks, saline drops and the dreaded nose sucker when things got really bad. Lots of cuddles and once or twice some panadol, then we just tried to hang one and pray for it to all be over soon!

Its so heartbreakingly awful when they are sick and everything hurts and they are too little to know why...
