I haven't seen the segment on TV, but I think the world's in a pretty sad state when there can be barely-clad breasts on display on magazine covers at children's eye-height in any service station or supermarket around the country - but a woman providing nourishment to her child is admonished to 'cover up'.

Breasts have two purposes - to feed children and to be aesthetically pleasing to sexual partners or potential sexual partners. The above are not mutually exclusive, but in our society, unless a woman is engaged in activity that is meant to show how available she is to sexual partners, and how attractive she is, then she and her behaviour are shunned. It's disgusting.

i am sick of media outlets trumping this up as an issue, there is no issue, it's the law.

how about some segments on "losers who don't understand the purpose of boobs".

sorry, grumpy mood this morning!

I see more boob from a "chick" wearing a tank top, or singlet, or boob tube than I do a woman breastfeeding her baby.

And not to mention butt cheeks beng exposed with barely-there shorts/skirts.

I cover up as part of my religion, and yeah, I think it's disgusting to see women dressing like they need to expose every part of their body bar their vagina and areola. So how could it possibly not be okay for a woman to breastfeed her child in public?

Good point, it's the law and you're breaking it if you tell her not to. Discussion over.

never had and never will have a problem with breastfeeding in public

agree completely with Tam

I also have yet to see a woman breastfeeding in public who openly flashes everyone anyway- and even if she did- who cares!!

I can't believe they are still having these conversations on telly. I was a little nervous about doing it in public at first (have no issue with others, just my own paranoia) and was pleasantly surprised to find no-one ever once batted an eyelid. I b'fed everywhere too. When I was in bad moods I was itching for someone to comment so I could let rip  but it never happened:goodvibes:.

Wow..when I am feeding DD, I am um, giving my daughter milk. It is about nothing else. I'm not even aware there are other people around. Whether or not I feed in public is between my DD and myself...nobody else.

I agree, although I'd breastfeed in public even if that weren't the case :)

I avoid one particular shopping centre on a Thursday night, as it's like the meeting place for all those wayward teens who go out shopping wearing skirts that are so low cut you can almost see the top of their fanny, so short that if they bend slightly their g-strings are showing, and shirts that are really tight with some horrid saying on it like "Lock up your boyfriends, I'm in town" and they're only about 13 to 15!

I get really sad seeing that kind of thing, and wonder what it will do to their reputation or self esteem as they get older. I do not get upset seeing a mother breastfeeding. It is upsetting seeing a mother carrying a screaming, hungry baby through a shopping centre looking for a private place to feed. How awful for them both.
