Only 1 food tube

Hi All,

We had our 19 week scan yesterday & the sonographer has told us that our baby has only 1 'food tube' in its umbilical cord, apparantly your supposed to have 2 feed tubes & 1 waste & we have only 1 of each :( She said not to worry too much (yeah no worries) & that about 1 in 100 babies have this problem. Our baby is spot on for its due date & everything else seems ok, she said maybe we will have to have it a couple of weeks before the due date if its not getting enough...

So my question is has anyone else had this problem??? I see my ob on Monday so im sure he'll be able to tell me more but im so stressed out atm i thought i'd ask & see if you can help put my mind at ease a little till Monday

Please don't stress. Friends of mine had this with their baby, she was born at term, normal weight and is now a happy healthy 3 yo. It's pretty common I understand.

Another tip, don't google it - your head will be filled with worst case scenarios when the first thing you really need is good solid information from your doc.

i AGREE THEY TOLD ME THAT 6 WEEKS BEFORE i WAS DUE WITH dd #1 SHE WAS FINE 7 1/2 LB AND 2 WEEKS LATE. THEY SAID THEY MAY HAVE TO DELIVER EARLY BUT NEVER DID, SOMETIMES THEY SAY THINGS THAT THEY SEE EVERY DAY AND ARE NORMAL IN SOME CASES OUTLOUD WHEN THEY SHOULDN'T. DONT STRESS :thumbsup:

Thanks for your replies ladies...xkwzit too late:o i already did & i actually wasn't going too. The report i found on it wasnt too bad though it said 75% were fine & in 25% it could represent a 'soft sign' of a genetic disorder :( but there had to be numerous other 'soft signs' for this to investigated. I should be thankful that every thing else was ok...though when i see my doc on monday i will be asking for a second opinion..i know that bub defininetly looks like it only has 2 tubes (& i can live with that) BUT i would like a more thorough look around at its other organs the lady that was doing the u/s was learning & though there was another woman there i feel they were concerntrating too much on the cord & maybe not paying enough attention to other bits iykwim. After reviewing the video the u/s was quite sloppy..she never held the scanner still! & she was a little rough. The original doc i was supposed to see for the u/s is on holidays so i think i'll wait till he gets back so he can have a look & not the trainee. It may seem stupid but i really want someone a little more experienced when it comes to anything with my baby especially when it concerns my bubs health...

On the upside i havent felt too bad today though im having terrible dreams which i think are a little stress related...& another positive your replies gave me was that my other babies were 8lb7oz, 7lb3oz & 8lb8oz so not really small anyway...i wouldnt mind another 7lb baby!!:) Well 2 more days before i see my ob..i'll let you know how i go & thanks again for replying:)
