Dh and I both think I should breastfeed till 6 months.

Should I be breastefeeding for 6 months or 6 months corrected..??

Also would I start solids at 6 months or 6 months corrected?

He was 7 and a bit weeks early..

My twins were born at 35weeks, and our paed suggested using corrected age for the start of solids. I will be using that as a guide and their develpment as the main thing. DS is much stronger than DD, he holds himself better and isn't as floppy as her. His muscles are developing faster than her, so that is a much better indication that his digestive system is also developing than his age. They are changing the reccomendations to start solids from 4-6months now I have been told. The twins are 4months actual, and I can't imagine giving them solds now - they are just not physically ready.

As for breastfeeding - I will be allowing them to self-wean, and breastfeeding for as long as it's working well for us all, and we are comfortable to do so. DS1 was 19months when he weaned, but only due to me being sick, he would have fed for longer if I wasn't in hospital.

My son was born at 26 weeks, he has a few disabilites now such as pro foundly deaf, CP, oxygen still (his 2.5yo) so chronic lung, still tube fed 24/7 dependant but does eat solids such as his fav twisties lol (only when he feels up to it)... but even if i was able to feed him properly i would use corrected age for everything.. Because as charlismum said bout the digestive system, even tho there out of utro there tract isnt mature enough. however, i know other prem mum of bub at 24 weeks n they fed there bubs 4 months corrected. Just depend on the child and yea the whole dont fed til 6 months is the new age but every one is different. Go with what u feel is right and if still unsure when bub is 6 month old then wait a bit long u'll b able to tell when bub is ready. hope that all made sense lol best of luck...

At our paed visit the other week, he said the new guidelines are 4 months, but to wait till he's 4 months corrected. He was also 7 weeks early & born just after your DS, but I can't imagine him being ready then.

My DS2 was also 7 weeks early & due to weight gain issues, he told me to try him around 5mths. He didn't take to it all for quite a few weeks & even then it was a very slow process.

I don't have any weight gain issues this time, so am thinking I may just wait a while before I start him.
