Just wondering what you think the best age for baby photos is? My bubs didn't have them at birth as had a nasogastric tube, then we left it as she had cradle cap, then left it again as thought we wanted her to smile in them........

Any thoughts on best age?

I think sitting, crawling, starting to walk are all good stages for photos. When they are just sitting is good cos they can't move, but you get some very cute, cheeky crawling shots! But honestly, you think your baby is completely gorgeous all the time, so any photos you get will be cherished forever!

If you are talking professional ones I reckon about 12 months is good.

That's when I got my son's ones done. I didn't intend for it to be that late but we had one thing after the other happen that stopped me getting them done. The hospital ones didn't work out so well because of the board on his arm. Out of hospital we had cradle cap that made him lose most of his hair which just made him look like an old man with a bald spot. He gets eczema & gets dribble rashes so I needed him to be completely clear of that as well so the photos would be good, so I only just got them recently.

In the end I just got them done at one of those places in the shopping centres. They did a great job & I have some fantastic pics. If you do use one of those places make sure you act like you aren't sure about buying the full package when you go back to collect it as they will drop the price or throw in a free enlargement - where I went did both.

At 12 months they will sit fairly still and can follow basic instructions and be able to be easily posed.

I think 12 months is a great age. I've had my first 2 sons photographed professionally and will do the same with my 3rd son at 12 months. Their character really shows in their photos and it is a beautiful age to capture.

I think any age is a good age. Minor blemishes can be photoshopped out and waiting until they look "perfect" seems to go against the whole idea of photographs as memories. Candid shots are great with little ones, and it's much easier to get nice candid ones than posed shots.

5-6 mths is awesome for the first photos. Both my girls had pixi photos done at this age. Very smiley and of course just sat there so much easier :)

We did ours today and DD is 8 1/2 mths

She is sitting, crawling and can stand with help. This gave for a good assortment of "poses'.

She is also still a baby  Well in my eyes she is. So I am glad we waited.

within 10 days of birth is the absolute peak, you get awesome pics then, tubes or no tubes. 6 months is also a good age, by 12 they've lost that 'baby' look.

We got professional pics within the first couple of weeks. As someone else said blemishes can be photoshopped out and it is awesome having beautiful family shots when he is so so little. Glad we didnt wait any longer.
