Moving to Brisbane in December from NZ but DH is moving over earlier next month! DH has secured a job in Oxley which is on way to Ipswich, however will be staying with my sister in Springwood. Were hoping to buy a house between the 2 areas somewhere and find a good school for DS6. Apparently Springfield or Forest Lake??

Can anyone recommend (or not) areas please?:):)

Hi Vickie,

Forest Lake and Springfield are both good suburbs if you wanted to be near to Oxley. Lots of services, shops and more than one school (well, FL does - not 100% on Springfield) Springfield is a newer estate than F'Lake which might affect the price? They're not really all that close to Springwood though.. so I guess it depends on how close you want to be to your sister?

Will your DH need to take public trans to work? Neither are on the train line, so it might be something to think about if that's important to you?

There is always suburbs like Kuraby which have new estates going up at the moment or some nicer older houses. Again - really depends on your price range!

Not sure if this has helped at all, but at least has given your post a great big bump :)

It you have an specific questions about a suburb I might (or am sure someone on here!) be able to help as I've lived in quite a lot of places in south / west suburbs :D

Hi Vickie, just thought I'd answer as no one else has. The 2 areas you mention aren't really between Springwood and Oxley, although they're convenient to Oxley and nice enough to live in. Sunnybank Hills and surrounding suburbs would probably be around the middle. Springwood to Oxley is around a 40 minute drive. If you don't mind being closer to Oxley than Springwood I really enjoy Forest Lake, its around 15 mins from Oxley and 30 mins from Springwood. I would cross Springfield off, it's a good 40 mins from Springwood and around 30 mins from Oxley so not the most convenient. Hope that helps some :-)

Hi Vickie,

The above two posts are correct and FL and SL are nice areas but do not offer a lot when it comes to public transport or close locality when looking at facilities. I live in Springwood and have done most of my life, its a great area to live in terms of public transport and local facilites. The drive to oxley can take up to 40min as stated but that is if you take the local roads and not the motorways. If your husband was to take the motorways you are looking at about a 25min run out there, I do this drive at least once a week and find it very simple to do.

On the other had if you are after a middle ground, places like calamvale, parkinson, sunnybank hills and algester are good in terms of public transport, schools and shopping facilites. But this all comes down to affordablility and whats best for your family. I do travel a lot for work with the industry I am in and can offer some insight to the areas that you are interested in, so please if you have any questions or would like to know anything about the south east please don't hesitate to msg or email myself. More than happy to help out where I can.

Cheers

Jarrod

I live in Willawong which is a ruralish type suburb just near Oxley, there is also Durack and Doolandella which are near Oxley, they aren't the most flash suburbs but at the same time there are some lovely houses too. My hubby and I have two rentals in Forest lake and I think the area is lovely, my step kids go to school at Forest lake.

I agree with the other chicks that Springfield is way too far!

cross springfield off ur list, lived there, hated it, to far from everything, and its stinking hot, very dry heat. forest lake is good, depending on the ages of ur children.my cousin is 17 and his lived there all her life, and the past two years she has watched the town turn to cr@p because of all the teenagers there, and the ones from neighbouring suburb inala starting fights at the local shops etc.

oxley... lovely, i live here. lol. but no, it is great, the local school is just putting up a new indoor sports complex and a new library its fifteen mins to the city. 45 to the gc. dunno about this 40 mins to springwood business though, i used to work at springwood, live in oxley and it took me 20 mins, going thru the suburbs, not the motorway, and that included dropping my son off at daycare, peak hour traffic, and sticking to the speed limit.lol.

good community spirit, close to everything.

also calamvale, parkinson and algester are all lovely places to live.
