How old can a baby be when they start having tap water? I was talking to my SIL and she said she gives her baby tap water sometimes, and I thought it wasn't until they were 1 that you could give it to them...

Also, what age can they have vegemite?

I too wondered about the vegemite thing, as I know you have to be careful about sodium. But everyone I know with bubs the same age as mine have been giving their bubs vege toast etc for a while so I asked my CHN & she said no problem.

Claire loves her vegemite toast & cheese & vegemite sandwiches now!!

She's been having them from around 8 months.

I'm not sure about the tap water thing. A CHN did once tell me that from 6 months you should try getting them to drink out of a cup & suggested giving them a little cup filled with a small amount of water while they are in the bath & said to give them water from the tap rather than the bath water. I was a bit confused by that as I thought up until that point that unboiled water was still a no-no.

I have started thinking recently though that DD drinks a fair bit of bathwater at the moment anyway, so I guess tap water isn't going to hurt her!

I still boil water for her bottles though.

DS is just about 10 months and I still boil water for him, even though he drinks LOTS of bath water! We have very disgusting water up here (Lots and lots of calcium!!), but if the kettle is too hot I will give him some tap water and he seems to be fine.

I didn't give DS tap water til he was close to 12mths old...I have no idea why tho.

I gave him vegemite when he was 7mths, and he loved it...but it gave him a rash so I couldn't give it to him again til he was at least 2yrs old. I have no idea what is in it that caused the rash, he didn't have any reaction to any other food. He loves vegemite now tho

I'm definately not an expert, but I was thinking that Vegimite would probably be best left till about a year or so because it contains yeast, and some people are allergic to that....??

They say to boil their tap water until 12 months of age. I boiled my DD's until she was around 11 1/2 months.
As for vegemite, Ive never heard not to give it to them. My DD has had it on toast since she was about 8 months old.

I gave tom Tap water for the first time last week, and only because he was thristy and the kettle was still really hot and would have taken ages to cool.,he's 12 months old.

Sorry, not sure about Vegimite :o cant stand the stuff.

Just to show that advice differs:rolleyes: :o , I was told that ordinary water was fine from 6 months old, but that Vegemite should wait until after they are 12 months old, because of the high levels of salt and babies relatively immature system can't cope with a lot of salt.
