I am outraged to hear that JET childcare is now only available to those studying courses for a duration of one year or less. How are single parents ment toget themselves back into the workforce, without affordable childcare??? Too bad for those, like me wanting to complete a university degree( which takes much longer than one year)in order to get off Parenting Payment. shame Howard shame.

There have been a a few changes to the JET "system".
There is a fact sheet available to read:
Go to Facs.gov.au
In the search type in JET
The fact sheet is the Microsoft word link (2nd one down I think) It says factsheet3july.

the sheet i have that was sent to me says you have to re-apply if you need JETCCFA for more then a year. so would you need to re-apply every year if you were doing a long uni course?

JET is Jobs Education Training its a part of centrelink that can help parents return to work or study/training so they can get jobs.
you can get reduced childcare fees. i am still yet to find otu the new price of my fees for ds but its spose to be 10cents per hour of use so for me ti will be about $1.40 a week :D how that helps :)

As per the FACSIA WEBSITE
Jobs, Education and Training (JET) Child Care provides extra help with the cost of approved child care to support parents while they undertake study, work, or job search activities. JET Child Care is available to eligible parents who have an activity agreement requiring them to undertake activities to help them enter or re-enter the workforce.
JET Child Care can help meet the cost of child care by paying most or the 'gap fee' – the difference between the total fee charged and the amount covered by Child Care Benefit (CCB), for care related to JET Child Care approved activities.
Under the new rules for this new financial year, you will only be granted JETCCB for certain periods of time.

Hi I recieve Jet Child Care for Loch and as of next week will be recieving it for Jackson. The course I do is a course that i will finish this year and then be at uni next year, thereofre at least 3 years.
I have been receiving it for Lachlan for over a year anyway. I got the letter and mine said if you are already recieving it not to worry nthing will change, but if you need to ammend it or add anybody then you need to go under a contract,
I just went and did my contracts today, all they said where that I need to let them know if I stop studying or if I go less hours. Jet Child Care is available for people who study/ are looking for work or starting work. For people studying it is available up until 5 years unless you have a reason why you would need it longer.
Loch starts going 5 days a week next week and Jack 2 days and I will only be paying $10 a week. So if you think you might be eligable, go for it because it sure is worth the money you save.
Hope I helped! :yelclap:

I am studying Cert III in CHildrens Services flexibly (i can choose my hours and take up to 3 years to complete it) would this count????
this is kinda confusing maybe i should get hubby to call centrelink and find out more-i personally dont deal with them because i get annoyed at them too easily and tell them what i think of them when they stuff me around...which is usually always.
jessgray
12-07-2006, 14:49
yeah that would count :D where are you studying through? i can onyl find seek learning do that course flexible

The contract just says that you will go when you say you are and are pretty much not going to screw them around. And if you do you will pay them back

Against my better judgement (and i did listen to what was said believe me) i went through Thomsons (after checking out their forums and making sure it was all ok) because TAFE wouldnt let me postponed prac until after i had my baby and seek didnt have payment plans.
I know they have a bad rep with some people but I need something to do because im not hte kind of person that can sit around and do house work all day with a toddler..........and so far they have been ok. (If they have stuffed me i WOULD take it further because its false advertising and giving the Nationally Recognised Training logo a bad name and if the logo is on the certificate issued there shouldnt be a problem with it being recognised as a course)
I was going to do primary education through Murdoch Uni in Perth (where i live) cos its external but i cant handle having set dates for things being due, exams and things like that when my morning sickness is so unpredicatable.
Another Qu about JET: How do you apply?
brizbabe

jessgray
18-07-2006, 12:41

yummymummy
18-07-2006, 16:34

Hi I am sorry to hear about that "Yummy Mummy" However I think that all of Centrelink needs to get on the same page.
As I had To reapply for Loch and Jack and I told them that I was doing this course which led me to Uni next year and they said that that is fine as they just do it on a year by year basis, finish first year of uni in one year (tick) Finish second in one year (tick), etc, if you get what I mean.
Anyways they have changed it to what I said before which was $2 a day. It is now 0>10cents and Hours. You have to pay for the amount of hours the centre is open but It still works out cheaper and unbelievably affordable.

that sucks yummymummy.
:shame: centerlink needs a boot up the bum. they want mums to work and when you try to do something so you cna get a good job they dont help
my fees are $2.20 a week thats what the lady who i give the $$ to at daycare said anyway lol

Hiya, newbie here....
I am glad the new JET system has worked out cheaper for you...they totally screwed me over...
old system = $2 a day = $10 per week
new system = 10 cents x 50 hours + 10 hours not covered by JET at a 60 hour centre which works out to be a total of $38.33 per week
thats $76.66 a fortnight!
NOT HAPPY JAN!
...I have already committed 2.5 years of my life to my course so i have no choice but to keep going and pay the child care fees. So much for Welfare to Work 'removing barriers' and supporting people crapola. ITS A SHAM!!!!!
^and thats with one child in care, what about people with 2 or more in care?
jessgray

my childcare fees are (ds goes to 2 different centres)
at the monday &tuesday one: its $1.40 a day
the wednesday & friday one: its $1.10 a day
so my weekly total is: $5
i cant belive that some people are paying more under the new system  its not very fair, the goverment wants people to go to work but if they cant afford childcare how are they spose to study or work?
^ I just got an email from somebody saying that they are going to extend my hours to 60 per week, which means I now only have to pay $5 a week which is a huge difference. Yay!!! I am happy now :yelclap:
^ mind you I have had to do more than one tanty in the process :D
