I agree. Rose seems to be really popular. My mum played a game at my baby shower where people had to choose a first and middle name that they liked. I think Rose showed up 4 times as a middle name. I sat there silently chuckling to myself as my daughters middle name was going to be where her grandfather that she will never get to meet was born. Rhodes (Greece). It has the meaning of 'Rose' or 'where roses grow'.
But yes Rose is pretty but really overused. But then as far as I can remember Rose has been popular with people my whole life.

Our baby I'm pregnant with now is going to be Willow Rosina. (Rose-een-na) We've decided to use my MIL's name for our DD's middle name.

I have a really sweet story about why my daughters middle name is Rose:
We knew from the scan we were having a girl, and had picked out the name Jessica Beth months in advance. We lived on a farm and the entire back yard was filled with Rose bushes, which all had buds on them but not a single rose had bloomed yet. Weeks and weeks went by, still not a single Rose had bloomed. Its was a common going thing for us to try and guess what colours the roses might be when they bloomed - are they all the same colour? Are they different colours, etc.
Then, on the day I went into labour I was in town shopping. When I got home, my contractions were about 5 mins apart. I got my hospital bag ready and got in the car. Right before we were leaving for the hospital my husband called out for me to get out of the car and come into the backyard....
What I saw was the most beautiful sight ever - every single rose bush had bloomed, and ALL of the Roses were Pink. Then and there we just knew our girl was to be called Jessica Rose.

That is a really lovely story
Yes Rose is popular (my DS was going to be Caitlin Rose if he were a girl) and that is because it is such a beautiful name. It is like Grace, it seems to be a middle name for so many little girls. (my daughter's name is Grace).
Beautiful names get used a lot - and so they should
I love Rose
but we went with another flower name Lily
for our daughter's middle name
I also like Daisy and Violet

I love the name Rose. I liked it for a first name for our baby if it was going to be a girl, but we have a Poppy already so probably couldn't do Rose as well! I also love Roisin, which is Irish (although they're not related). I also love Rosie and Rosemary.
Poppy Rose could have worked I suppose, but her middle name is Alexandra :D

I put Rose in the category of 'filler names'.
Those middle names like Grace, Lee, Louise, Marie etc that just seem agonizingly popular.
I wouldn't say the parents didnt put any thought into naming their child, but most often I find they just 'settled' with it because it was easy...JMO.

Haha, my middle name is Louise and my sisters is Maree. Our first names weren't really popular 24 and 26 years ago. There were alot of Louise middle names in my circles of peoples at that time though.

Yeah I kind know what you mean. But I guess if the name goes then it just does. It could also be a family name though and some thought would have gone into it then.
I am a big fan of names that no one else will have. We almost no one anyway. I don't think there will be to many bubs with my girls middle name and that is awesome as it is a family link and means alot to us.

Really??? Just settled with it? or a "filler" name? How many people do you know that just settled with it? I don't know any that just settled for a name.
Perhaps the names are amazingly popular because they are lovely, feminine names & people have named their children after family members or some other tradition therefore of course they will be used time & time again.
I actually found your comments a little offensive. I certainly did not "settle" with any of my childrens names & my parents did not "settle" with mine or my sisters names (they are also names you mentioned).

I also have quite popular middle names for my daughters - but like the past two posters have said, they are family names.
The Maree is my middle name, along with my mum's and two grandmothers. The Rose was my grandmother who has recently passed away's first name.
While they may be more popular...they have meaning to us.

Oh for gods sake.
No doubt this thread will be locked now because someone has expressed an opinion that differs from the 'norm'.
I know where she's coming from, I too think names like Grace, Rose, Marie etc, although beautiful and timeless are chosen mainly because they 'go' with anything rather than because the parents have any connection with or great love for the name. I know 3 people who've used Grace and Louise just because it went nicely with the first names they'd chosen.
There's nothing wrong with choosing a name for that reason so I don't see why you would find her comments in any way offensive.

Nice choice
We've picked Lilah Jeanne for ours.
If we didn't have family names to use as middle names we'd have probably used Rose or Grace.
What is so wrong with a name being popular?
Why is it so bad?
I do have an unusual name (although very common in my parents' culture) and both of my girls have unusual names - hence we gave them common middle names - Jade and Rose. We thought long and hard, agonised and even considered not giving a middle name, but with their first name and last name, they both needed a simple, classic, elegant one syllable middle name and these were our favourites, not our 'fillers' or something we just settled on without any thought.
As one with an unusual name, its a pain in the *** to have to spell and pronounce it all the time, and growing up I wanted to be like all the other girls - the sarahs, janes, kylies, rebeccas, clares etc.
Remember your child may not like their name nor thank you for it.
I put Rose in the category of 'filler names'.

Although I'm not offended, I can see how people with those 'filler names' or people who have named their children with those names, may not agree nor be happy with those comments, but you do have a right to your opinion.
Naming a child can be a difficult and complicated process, where the parents need to come to an agreement or compromise about a name, plus then their is the input of extended family, friends etc.
I think it is rare for people to just settle for a filler name or not give much thought nor consideration to the name

Rose/Rosie is a family name (short for Rosalie), and whilst I think it's pretty, I don't think I'd ever use it.

I think more people have rose as a second name than first. Rose is just one of those lovely names that goes with almost every name..it gives it a soft sound. Its also a name that people never get sick of. thats why you can use it so much :smiliedance:

As a middle name I think it is very common, as a first name definately not so much!
Though I do tend to agree with names that seem like they are just fillers - they can seem like the parents just couldn't be bothered thinking of anything else, I know for a fact that my friends middle name of Rose (Caitlyn Rose) was a 'just because'. And that if my DF had his way our DD to be's first middle name would be Louise, for no good reason (though I do have an Aunty Lou!)
Our little girl with be Rosabella :goodvibes:

Very true. Surprisingly, I just checked, and Rose isn't even in the top 100. Very underused as a first name. I would definitely consider it for a FN if I have another daughter

If this next baby is a girl, her middle name will be Rose. Not because it is popular or a 'filler' name though but because it is the name of my Nan's best friend who passed away and was a very special lady. DD2 has the middle name Grace, I actually wanted it as a first name because I think it's such a beautiful name, but then we found another name both DH and I agreed and loved too. So we decided to keep Grace as the middle name instead:) And DD1's middle name is Victoria after my mum :D
