View Full Version : Christmas presents - What to buy for a one year old???
Hi Everyone
I have been looking at the sales and am just a little confused about what to buy for Christmas.
DD will be 12 months old and I have no idea what one year olds play with.
Does anyone have any ideas?
One of the best things we got our son was one of the fisher price learning house things. We got it when he was 6 months old and he still loves it now hes 2.
oh okay - Ill check that one out..
Thankyou:hugs:
Successful presents for our one year olds have been books, drums (soft rubber ones), maracas, a wooden trolley with blocks to push, a ride on (and it still gets used by my 3 year old), stacking cups, wodden puzzles, plastic animals. Our experience has been that a lot of the electronic toys have a novelty factor that wears off but that other toys that let them decide how they want to play with them last a lot longer.
DS liked things like balls, blocks (just basic wooden ones), ride on toys, anything he could hold onto and walk with, anything that made noise...we also got him a little slide from Big W for his 1st birthday, he was almost walking, and he loved that too

What about a doll? Every little girl needs to have a doll. I gave one to my DD when she turned 1. She loves it.

My little one seems to love anything that is easy to hold and makes noise  Maracas and a rubber drum set are her absolute favourites and probably the cheapest things that we have bought. She also loves the boxes and wrapping paper that they came in  Gooduck

We got DD a shape sorter toy for Xmas, she'd have been around 13 months. She wasn't quite ready for it but picked it up a few months later. Same with wooden puzzles.
Perhaps an activity table if she doesn't already have one. You could always pull it out to use before Xmas if she's ready for it sooner.

Here I go again agreeing with everything you say! You must think I am stalking you by now but I couldn't have said it better. The wooden trolley full of blocks was the most used thing in our house by both our children followed very closely by the ride on car. We have generally avoided any electronic toys-they are far from educational despite what the manufacturers say and the novelty wears off after only a few days-no exageration.
Sal stalk away! Our wooden trolley currently alternates in use between being a dolls pram with pillows and a cart for them to push each other or themselves around in. (Not bad for a $12 gift two and a half years ago!)
Thanks for the tips girls.
Now I just got to find somewhere that sells that sort of thing and hasnt run out:eek:

I recently ordered a book from a new online shop called www.whimsicalwombat.com.au (http://www.whimsicalwombat.com.au) . They create picture storybooks WITH PHOTOS of your child throughout. I ordered the book for my nephew as I thought it would be the most wonderful present for him to look back on when he is older as well. . . it was a big hit! It got passed around the party and everyone loved it! The seems to personalise them more than some others I looked at, I ordered a hardcover and I was really impressed with the quality of them too.
They have a few different books. . . worth checking out for kids gifts!!
