Hi there. i was just wondering if anyone could tell me what symptoms to look for to determine if a urine infection in a baby boy is present.
I really appreciate any feedback - its not for my boy but a friends 3 month old.
Kaydens mum.
Nathan got a urine infection at 3 weeks. With him i noticed blood in his nappy and took him to the Dr, after collecting a sample it was sent off for tests that revieled an infection. Any sort of infection usualy comes with a fever so a fever could be one sign. If in dought see a doctor who can get a urine test done.

I think there are sticks you can get from the chemist which they pee on to see if there is an infection. Either way it wouldnt hurt to try a pro-biotic to build up the good bacteria in his system. I tend to always opt for a natural approach first. The only one we use is called In-Liven, as its a broadspectrum and organic. Just use an eye dropper to administer it or in their sipper cup if theyre at this stage. The one I tried before this I got from a Health Food store and was for breastfeeding Mums. In that when the mothers takes it it will also pass through the breastmilk. Might be a simpler way to administer it if hes a young baby. If you want the name of it let me know. Anyway hope this helps, Amanda
Its hard to tell in little bubs but pain when urinating, blood in nappy, sometimes if you find his nappies arent as wet as usual as he will hold on for longer due to pain. The tip of his penis may be red.And generally the urine has a really foul smell to it. if she can it is a good idea to drop by the hospital or a doc's and get a sterile collection bag/cup as it if far easier to get a sample at home rather than at the docs or hospital. we had to sit at the hospital for about two hours until my nephew was ready to pee, then within 20 minutes we were on our way home!!
Good luck.
