Hi all,

Before i was going out today for the toy sale...i was speaking to my mum in sydney...& i asked her what i could get for my lil neice,,,she will be 3 at xmas.
I was going through the catolouge reading it saying to mum "Ok what about this does she have that?" ..."Yep she's got that" said mum...to nearly every bl**dy toy in the catolouge...& no im not lying...i said " Oh ok here we go a dora kitchen" (she loves dora) "Nope she has a kitchen" said mum...i couldnt believe how much stuff she has....i said to mum are you kidding me she has that many toys.... yeah mum said its crazy how much she has my mum said....i thought it was so silly... she will never appreciate anything in her life because she has no need to she gets whatever comes out at the shops.
Now i watched Dr Phil once...& there was a lady on there saying how naughty her daughter was...but she had everything. He said " Im from Texas & on the farm we had heaps of cows & this one huge tree...they all stood under for shade, now if they had heaps of tree's around they wouldnt appreciate that tree" He said "you daughter is the same she has so many things that she doesnt appreciate them cause its not like its anything special when she gets somthing" Do you see what i mean ...did you all get the E.g...i thought it was a great thing that he said.
But i ended up buying her a lil slide thing a dora one...where you look in through the glasses & see dora.
What do you get a child that has everything. lol:rolleyes:

I have no idea wht you would get a child that has everything...maybe something that they'll actually NEED rather than more stuff!

I think setting up a bank account (or if she already has one, putting some money in there) would be a good idea...as long as it's not accessible until she's a fair bit older.

I dunno.

It's shame that some kids have EVERYTHING. I mean, we all WANT everything, but I think it's great that we never HAVE everything...it makes us want to EARN things a bit more.

How about some arty stuff - scrapbook and some pencils, stickers, glitter glue - funky zig zag scissors.
Or a littlies cooking kit ie little apron, some cookie cutters, little rolling pin etc and maybe buy a box of those bake at home kids muffins with the little stickers on top.
Maybe the above will show her that actually doing stuff can be more fun than just playing with toy after toy???

Books. There is no such thing as having too many books.

I agree with trying not to spoil kids with too many things. But it's easier for us probably because she doesn't get big presents from extended family (they're all overseas). I flipped through most of the Kmart catalogue and only saw one or two things I'd be interested in getting for DD, who'll be 3 at Christmas. Most of the toys seemed like fads that she wouldn't play with for very long anyways. She won't have a very big stack under the tree.

another suggestion, what about outdoorsie type things - the old fashioned things I used to get - kite, buckets of chalk, insect collection kit...

eek! i just realised i'm starting to get this way!! i always said a child doesn't need many toys as i feel it's important for them to use everyday things & a lot of imagination to boost their creativity. (& when they r older, to save their pocketmoney to buy their own toys) however, i went through the kmart & big w catalogue & made a huge list of what i wanted to buy for Q.! now i'll have to reconsider!! :detective:

how about buying a piggybank to encourage her to save. i saw a really cute one in myer that's a stuffed pig (really cuddly) but has a slot for coins. that way if she doesnt save money coz she gets bought everything she wants, she can still use it as a soft toy ;)
