When your baby was born did the father try and see them or know that you had given birth to them?

When i went into labour i left a message on the phone. he came the following day after I had rested and bonded with my little girl

i called him after i'd given birth & said he could visit if he liked & he turned up with his dad (my ex had lost his licence) about an hour later (without any warning!) but he seemed a bit 'out of place' like he wasn't sure what to do or even y he was there!
