I was having A conversation with A friend of mine and she told me she still showers with her 11 year old son, to me I thought that he was A little too old, he starts Highschool next year..
I shower or bath with my son regularly but he is only 19 months, but I don't think I could see myself showering or bathing with him once he is older then 6.
So my question How old was your DD or DS when you stopped sharing the bath or shower ?
Mind you I don't think I would have A problem with DP showering with DS until he was around 10 but I think any age after that would make me feel uncomfortable.

I still have the odd shower with DD when hot water is limited. Regular shared showers stopped when she was about 8 though.
hmm I dunno I havent thought about it too much. I would have thought by 11 the little boy would be too embarassed? Even younger than that, I remember heaps of the little boys at my work who were only 4-5 years old were very self-conscious, maybe they were different with their parents though, I don't know. But hey, good on them, its great that they obviously still have this relationship, its a shame that embarassment/being uncomfortable has to come into it at all at any age. The only problem I would have would be having to squeeze and share the shower with them! :D
My showers are my only 5 minutes of complete peace and quiet!
sorry I just re-read your question, obviously I dont yet have a child of that age so can't give personal experience, but may as well share my thoughts anyway :)

ANonnyMouse - I think if I had A DD it would be different, just because we have the same "bits" and I would probably still shower on the odd occasion at 10 years old too, but because I have A son I just couldn't imagine myself showering with him at that age, maybe it has more to do with me being uncomfortable.
Em - She is A single mother so that may be why their relationship is so close, I notice single mothers generally have A closer bond to their sons then partnered parents. I also thought at 11 he would feel uncomfortable, but it is perfectly normal for them, just goes to show the different comfortableness and security/bonds we have with our children.

I think if I had a boy it would be about 5/6. I have a daughter and we shower together on a regular basis but she's started asking questions about anatomy  so I think that will end soon. I'd be very uncomfortable showering with a boy who was asking questions about anatomy. I'll probably still shower with her from time to time but not as much as now. I think mother/daughter and father/son is different to mother/son or father/daughter in respect to showering together IMO.

When they start to feel unconfortable about it- I am sure my DS's will choose not to shower with me whenever they start to feel uncomfortable with me- until that day I am totally ok with it.
We don't make a big deal of nudity or 'bits' in this house- its all a-la-natural!

Agreed! DD still showers with both of us and she has just turned five. It will continue until one party becomes uncomfortable with it.
