Hi ladies,
Just a quick question re Ovulation. My husband and I have a 12 month old son, and are trying for our second bub. I recently came off the mini pill and stopped breastfeeding about 2 weeks ago. My periods resumed from when my son was 9 months old, so I have had 1 semi normal period, and 2 regular normal periods since then. Theoretically I should be ovulating around now, however I have been doing OPK tests and none have come back positive yet, although I do get a second line which is distinct but not as dark as the control line. I also purchased Maybe baby a couple of days ago and have not had any ferns appearing as per what the packet says should happen while you are ovulating or in the transitional period. Also I have been trying to look for CM. Sometimes I thing I have some but am not sure whether it is from BA with my husband the night before? I am unsure if this means I am not ovulating??? Has any one heard whether you can have your periods back after stopping breastfeeding without ovulating??? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Hi  I haven't any chn yet, but your thread caught my eye as i too have been wondering if i am actually ovulating (have had same result from opk's as u - a line but not as dark or darker than control line). I went to see my GP and he said that u can get your period and still not be ovulating - my problem is that i don't appear to have ovulated since going of the pill at the beginning of April... If you are concerned, definitely go see your doctor as they can do blood tests to check to see if you are ovulating (which is what i am currently having done to check :) ) Not sure if this is any help to you but i wish you the best of luck in your ttc journey :flowerz:

Hi MrsLH,
Thanks for your response. I think I will def go to the doctors to get a blood test to check wether I am ovulating. However yesterday I got a positive OPK test, with the test line being darker than the control line. I thought great finally, however I then tried using the Maybe baby and no ferns arghhhh.
Re your situation I have heard that when you go off the normal pill it may take a few months for your body to start ovulating again. I have also read that you can sometimes miss the LH surge as it may only be there for a few hours. Maybe that is what is happening to both of us :o) Let me know what the blood tests come back saying. :o)
Hi,
After coming off the pill it can take awhile for your body to come back to normal. Everyone is different.
Yes there is a blood test you can get done to check if your ovulating.
I never got two lines using the ovulation pee on a stick test except for only once and it was very faint.
I have to do IVF due to my DH infertility so thats why i know about the blood test. I used to think I wasnt ovulating turns out I am. It turned out to be dh problem why we werent getting pregnant.
The cervical mucous your looking for is egg white. If you really dont know what your looking for crack an egg into a bowl and grab a bit of the egg white and press thumb and fore finger together. Pull apart slowly it should be stretchy. Thats what your looking for when sampling from your vagina. It should be there throughout the day so if you have had sex the night before, have a shower and then sample later in the day.
I hope this helps.

Hi Wishing4kids,
Thank you for your response.
I have heard about the pill taking a while to get out of your system. When we fell pregnant with our son I was only off the pill for a month and I got pregnant, but each time is so different. I might def get a blood test though to confirm I am ovulating
I think the OPK's are quite confusing sometimes, and can be quite hard to determine whether there is a def surge or not. I think the clearblue ones would be the better brand but a bit on the expensive side.
In regards to the cervical mucus, if I do have some then it is not alot, as it is still quite hard for me to determine wether it is from sex the night before, as I have heard that sperm can still be there for a few days afterwards hence the confusion.
Have you started IVF yet? If its any consolation a friend of mines friend was in the same situation, and they went through one round of IVF and were pregnant straight away. Thanks once again for your advice. :)
I've found OPK's dont seem to work for me. i havent tried maybe baby.
I'd really recommend taking your temps. This will give you a far better idea if you have ovulated or not.
