HELP please is my baby normal how to stop

hi my son is 16 and half months he is starting to punch him self in the head when i stop him he hits his head near the closet thing he can find my partner said all babys go through it i want to know how long till he grows out of it ???? and what to do to stop him?????

My son tried to headbutt furniture furiously until we took preservative 282 out of his diet at 14 months.

He started again (but much calmer about it) at about 20 months and stopped within a few days when he knew I wasn't paying attention to it (hard but effective)

nothing has changed in his diet he eats the same he just started doing it im scared he will hurt him self

It's a normal thing that they will try at some point. We had never had an instance until 14 months and it immediately became a major issue (thus we found out about the preservative and tried that).

Try to move him mid-tanty to a thick rug, carpeted area or even a bean bag so he can't hurt himself if you are really concerned. My DS would stop doing it if I wasn't looking directly at him and as he got older, he would bang his head and say 'ow that hurt' and not do it again.

At 16 months, bubs can get so frustrated that their bodies aren't able to do everything that they want them too. He is completely normal but try to do things to avoid the behaviour if at all possible.

thanks ill try that at the moment we say no to him in a calm voice and say its ok to him his a very very voical child he well yell the unit down i think he can sence that im stressed out we got a 60 day no grounds termnation notice in the mail an have till 16th of this month to find a place so i think thats what causing it

i can remember doing it when i was little out of frustration.
1 time my sister took my bike and i told my mum, she said to ride another 1 which made me frustrated cos i wanted my 1 but she didnt care so i walked over to the house and started headbutting the brick wall and i dont recall it hurting :banghead:
