View Full Version : Lap & Dye
Hi Everyone.
I saw my fertility doctor yesterday, I have been on Clomid for 3 months now - with no happy result. He has now booked me in for a Lap & Dye test. Which scares me, but at the same time I am happy about as I guess we can start to move forward.
He has explained the operation to me. Which I understand completely.
But I am very "body concious" Can someone please tell me what happens on the day of the operation......eg: prep for the op etc :(
Thank You everyone.
The lap/dye test is pretty straight forward.
They will put a drip in your hand which they will also use to medicate you and then it is z z z z until you wake up.
My dye test didn't work properly when I was under and I had to do it weeks later - awake. It's like a pap but they just squirt a small amount of clear liquid inside and then take x-rays. It's actually pretty cool to watch the dye spread. They take quite a few photos as the dye spreads. It was a bit uncomfortable and I found a bit more embarrassing then a pap as there is the doctor, a nurse to assist and the radiographer to take the pics. But hopefully your dye test will go smoothly when you are under!! :)
The Lap, for me, was fine also. I woke up with a three bandages over the entry sites and felt quite bloated. 4hrs later my shoulders started to hurt due to the gas they pump into your stomach (it moves up). But pain meds (panadol, dygesic) made me quite comfortable and then I went home.
I also had a D&C at the same time so I bled after but otherwise the op went very smoothly!!
I'm sure yours will as well.
All the best!!

:iagree: i had pain in my left shoulder afterwards from the gas they pump in. If you're getting the dye test with the lap nothing to worry about cause you'll be asleep. A nurse may shave the spots where the dr will make the incision i had one in my belly button one just under the top of my undies and then two on either side where my ovaries are (this is cause i had ov drilling) you might bleed a little bit but it should be fine.
I had my dye test awake and it is very embarassing.
Best of luck with the tests.
I had one many years ago. I was taken to a shared ward, changed into a gown & then waited around for ages. Then they gave me something to relax & shortly after was wheeled into theatre. I remember seeing a man with a beard & I remember thinking OMG he looks a bit like my brother then I was out to it.
I woke up in recovery & I remember being rude to the nurse & saying I was thirsty. I had a very sore throat. I think I'd had a tube down it. I don't know if that's standard or just for asthmatics as I was at that time. Sometime after I was wheeled back to where I started off & my then husband joined me.
The surgeon visited me & said they didn't find anything wrong. I was very disappointed as I wanted them to find something so they could fix me.
My DH had to help me out of the bed. It was then that I realised I had quite a lot of blood & dye all over the bed. That shocked me. I'd also had a D&C though. It sort of looked purple because of the blue dye. That again was a surprise. I don't know if they still use blue dye as it was a long time ago.
I could barely stay upright & was wonky as when I walked. My DH helped me to get dressed. I then sat out in a waiting room & had to eat some sangas before they'd let me leave. It took a long time til I could eat them.
I had to walk down a flight of stairs & I could barely do it. I had to be helped the whole way down.
I was bloated, had a sore shoulder & was quite out of it that night. The next day I was a lot better & was back at work on Monday (had it done on Friday).
hey had one done not last wednesday the one before - and was very unsure myself so i can relate. I wentto hosp at 7 am and checked in at day surgery suite then into waiting room til my turn. walked into op room and got up on table - they said hi blah blah and i asleep. woke up in recovery with some pain ( think i said 8/10) got drugs and was feeling better ( still crappy but better). I had to eat before they would let me go and like others have said saw a lot of mess on the bed when i got up..... all good though. Had bleeding for about 3 - days ( just like a period) and severe shoulder pain for about 3-4 days - it is bearable and better if you are expecting it - which i wasnt. i had two wound sites - belly button and just above pubic bone ( quite low though so make sure you shave - getting the tape off is killer lol). UNfortunately for me - it has not been smooth saiing since i left hosp..... my belly button wound got a minor infection so i am on 2 lots of antibiotics and i had an allergic reaction ( skin irritation) to some tape used to waterproof the stitches.
i think everyone is different - but its not too bad over all. they found i have severe endo and the obgyn who did the lap wasnt able to do anything for me so i have to see an endo specialist and more than likely have further surgery.
hope it doesnt sound too bad - but honesty is the best policy - and remember everyone is different.
good luck!!
