Hi Everyone,
First timer to the site, DH & I have been TTC for 3.5yrs. I suffer from Endo and have had 2 laproscapy's since 1999 am 32yo now and have recently found out that my partner has Triple defect sperm. We saw fert specialist and he advised only direction is ICSI -(approx $8.5K upfront), just wondering if anyone else has had similar diagnosis and if any other tests were completed, Dh & I both had blood tests and DH had semen analysis done. I would like to think that there is alternative options and am wondering if I should seek a second opinion????:banghead:
Hi Whereto,
I hear your frustration. That is a pretty big shock, and you and DH must be reeling right now.
I haven't been in your situation, but I wonder if it's worth trying 3 months or so on naturopathy and/or acupuncture to try and get your DH's sperm at its healthiest.
And even to help you as well with the endo. It would probably cost quite a bit but nowhere near so much as that figure, and might help get you get the best results out of ICSI - if that's needed.
Is there anything in his lifestyle that might be contributing to the sperm issues? (And they do say sperm function fluctuates a lot, so it's worth getting it retested.)
Also, where do you live? Are there other fertility clinics around - you could get another opinion. That might make you feel less like you were being "pushed into" ICSI.
I have just started looking into IVF here in Sydney (incase we need it down the track) and Im surprised by how much prices vary.
Good luck with your decision!
hi wheretofromhere, sounds like you have been on quite a journey so far. I also have mild endo and have been TTC for 3 years and I am 30 so we are quite similar in age and history, I have had 1 Lap in March this year. I am currently visiting an IVF clinic here in Sydney and am about to start IVF next month, I know that the prices for ICSI are slightly higher but only by a couple of thousand, and do you know that most of this you get back from Medicare. The gov is changing the medicare rebates from 1st Jan 2010 so after then it may make it more expensive, howver right now for us we have to pay around $7500 up front, but we will only be out of pocket $3000, so its not as bad as you first think. I think for sperm defects you dont have much choice apart from to do ICSI so as the prices are going to rise soon, maybe start looking into it and approaching some clinics for pricing etc. Good luck :babydust2:
