Oh great, there's another one coming. I don't think I will get mine yet until I have had my appointment with the tax office. Apparently it has suddenly been noted that I haven't paid any tax in 4 years and with the new CSA regime, I must now complete 4 years of tax returns. Um, yeah, I've been a stay at home mum for the last 5 years and have received money back from the tax department
There's between 1 and 3 new assessments that come out this time of year.
There's a provisional one - if noone has lodged a tax return by the time of their cut off date (not sure of the date), then once the mum or dad lodges a tax return, they amend - so there may be a provisional one, then if mum lodges on, there'll be another one, then if dad lodges one, there'll be another one.
For us (DH pays CS) we received notification of a new amount as bm had lodged a tax return (taken from the fact that the new assessment had a figure and didn't just say that they had provided a provisional amount based on the fact that she hadn't lodged one), and now DH has lodged his tax return, they'll send out a new notification
Not sure if this is true in all cases as DH pays NAP (CSA tells him the amount that he should be paying according to their formula) rather than garnishing his pay - stands to reason that it would be the same.
PS In our situation - they stated that bm's income had reduced from last financial year (she's ceased work), and they predicted DH's income has increased. So the amount went up. The amount that DH's income changed was different to the amount that CSA predicted, so once they get notification of his tax lodging, there will be another notification that the amount is different to the change they have already sent out
Hope that makes sense.
Yeah this years system was ridiculous. Ex and I just ignored the provisionals though as we both lodged our tax returns within the first few days of the new financial year, resulting in ALL the assessments (including provisionals) arriving within a week grrr. They had predicted the ex's income would go up by heaps and yet WE knew it wouldnt due to his knee recon last year.
Yes I received mine a couple of weeks ago, although it was only a temporary one as XDP hasn't yet lodged his tax return because he owes me a lot of $$$$ in CS backpay.
Then I got a letter saying that there is a change in my payment "frequency" and it went down from the assessment by about seven times
I honestly don't understand the whole thing and wish they would just fall off the face of the earth.
We are now, in theory, entitled to $12 a week :smiliedance:
