Throughout the week winding up to Garretts birth, i was getting sick, tired and contractions randomly, so when i felt sick with a headache and stomach ache on Saturday 3rd June morning, i never expected to be told later that morning that i was in labour! I went up to the birthing suites, but was sent home a couple of hours later saying i was in early labour, but seeing as though i was booked in for a c/s they told me to be careful and come back as soon as anything changed. I went to my BIL's for the afternoon (where my DH was) - but wasnt there for long before my contractions became regular, and headed back up to birthing suites. When i rang them, they told me to take up my bags - so i knew we were getting close. I wasnt at all worried, i suppose i forgot that i was 37 weeks, and i was excited about meeting my little man. They put the monitors on me and just watched for a while, although i was still only 3 contractions every 10min, and not dilated, so they admitted me to maternity ward - i got my own rooM! DH and i sat and watched tv while i tried to rest through the contractions. Midwives didnt think i was in pain enough to warrent pain relief :( around 9ish i thought my waters broke, but they did the test thingo, and it wasnt. did another internal - but nothing, so they didnt think i was close to birth, so at around 11pm they told DH to go home and get some sleep. I wanted to cry so bad then, all i wanted was my DH by my side, and they sent him home!!! So for the next 3 odd hours i crawled into a ball and waited for it all to pass.

2:50am my waters broke. I can remember lieing in bed and feeling as though i was wetting myself, so i jumped out of bed, and GUSH! lucky i was already wearing a pad, cause that does make an amighty mess! Funny enough, midwives now believed i might be close to giving birth. The concern with me giving birth naturally was my heart might go tachy (high heartrate), so after my waters broke they put me on monitors, my heart started to playup, but not dramatically. After an internal they found i was 4cm dilated. They then put the monitors on for bub, his heartrate was quite high - so they called theatre and got me in straight away. The midwives had called DH and told him the situation, although told him not to hurry - as most Dh would rush and have an accident or something not thinking clearly. But my DH took it literally, got up, had a shower, had a coffee, checked emails... Defientally taking his time! By the time he made it up there the drs had decided that they couldnt wait for him any longer, so they were getting me in there, he walked in just in time! (time enough to take photos and a video of me in some of my last contractions!)...

I cant think of anything more uncomfortable then trying to get all the epis and spinals in and such for an emergancy c/s while having some MASSIVELY painful contractions. I really surprised myself. I had nothing for the pain upuntil those. The anethisist (sp?) laughed at me when i giggled and grinned when all of the drugs kicked in. That feeling was awesome! DH was allowed in then, and he sat at my head while they cut away - when they told me that the first incision was complete i couldnt believe it, i didnt feel anything! it was great. After some pulling and tugging, i heard my little mans first cry... then i cried! Turned to DH and said "we have a little boy" - they held him up to me to see over the curtins, all i could say then was "holy ****, he's HUGE"... 4110g at 37weeks and 6 days!It was all too much for one of the nurses, whom passed out... I was alittle concerned, cause they all rushed to her, i thought there was some trouble with my baby, but they wrapped him up and passed him to Dh and we sat then in awe. To this day i still cant believe how something so precious could ever have come from me. ,After a little while, they took Garrett and Dh away, and they stitched me up... I overheard everyone calling my dr a perfectionist, found out later that is because her incision was perfect, so great infact that they believe i wont have a scar (4 weeks on, it looks like a crease in the skin) - so many drs/nurses/midwives have commented how clean the incision was - so im happy. I had to wait in recovery for awhile as my left leg took awhile to regain feeling, as that was the side that i was on while they put everything in. So i didnt get to hold my little man for 2 hours after his birth :(.... But they did all the weighing and such while i was there - apgars of 9 for both... very healthy little man.

He had to have blood sugar tests before each feed as he was so large for that early, but all turned out to be ok.

today (4weeks 3 days) he weighs in at 5300g - even with a week long hospital stint for bronculitus and pneumonia last week!

Daddy and Mummy still very smitten, so is everyone else that comes into contact with him!
