Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone else out there has suffered from this condition? I'm now 28 1/2 weeks pregnant and was told I have too much fluid around the baby about 3 weeks ago. I am so huge and uncomfortable because of it and have been told I could go into premature labour at any time because it has pushed my uterus up so high I'm measuring about 33-34 weeks pregnant and have always had mine early between 35-37 weeks as my body couldn't handle pregnancy any further than that time.

I don't mean to whinge because I would do anything to keep my little man in there growing for as long as possible but it's not just uncomfortable anymore it's actually painful 24/7.

Everything I've read says that there is a big possibility that I will now need a c-sect because the muscles have been so stretched from the extra fluid that they won't be strong enough for contractions and also that when the waters break because it will be such a gush it can cause the cord to come through the cervix first which can cause a strangulation problem for the baby. Also there is a huge risk of severe bleeding and heamorraging afterwards even with a c-sect. I had severe bleeding and heamorraging after my first for no apparent reason and nearly died spending 6 weeks in intensive care and needing many blood transfusions.

I've been told not too worry as stress will cause blood pressure and also lead to premature labour but how can you not?

:hugs:

I had polyhydramnios with my 3rd child. I know just how uncomfortable and at times, painful, it is..I was so huge that almost everyone I came across would ask if I was having twins (or more..lol)..
I was not aware and was never told of the risk of severe bleeding and had gone through haemorraging (sp?) and blood transfusion with my first child..
After my first emergency caesar with baby no.1, all subsequent pregs were to be caesars as well so I knew with no.3 that I was having one anyway..I was booked in on a Mon and my waters broke on the Sun :)
My belly deflated like a balloon. lol., though it wasn't a huge gush, more like a continuous leaking.. Took a while to realise my waters HAD broken (had just been to the loo) I was standing in the bathroom trying to decide whether they had broken or whether I was peeing even though in my mind I DID know..lol I have only just become aware of the cord risk with breaking waters and I'm glad I didn't know at the time else I would have been frantic..As it was, the birth went fine, no complications afterwards..
I'm sorry I can't help with info on a V birth with polyhydramnios but just wanted to offer my support as someone who has suffered (and it IS suffering..lol) this.. I honestly can't imagine WHY it would impede contractions though even reading your research..And if necessary, can't excess fluid be drained if it gets way too much for your overall health and comfort..Sorry, don't really know just vaguely remember reading that somewhere..
Oh, and my baby hung out in my belly until almost 38 weeks despite my size and being a third baby so fingers crossed for you that you will also hold out until 'your' threshold.
All the best

Cajay.

Thanks for your reply Cajay.

Had a big scare since posting my thread the other day and have just got home from hospital. Went to local gp for my little ones immunisation who said he didn't like the look of me, gave me a check-up and then sent me straight to the hospital after phoning my ob. Blood pressure up, baby's heartrate too high and having contractions. Kept in and put on bedrest and a drip for 24 hours and since been allowed home but now on weekly visits and u/s as I've been told hope to make it to 34 weeks at the most.
