How do I bleach clothes?

I've got a few whites which aren't looking that white anymore so I thought I might give them a bleach, but how do I do that? What's the ratio? Is there something better to do that you'd recommend?

Sorry, I've just never done the bleach thing before so have no idea what to do:o

I often buy generic, but don't buy a generic bleach, they are crap and you need the whole bottle.

I use whiteking, if it's only a few things I half fill a bucket with water put about a quarter of a big bottle in, then chuck the clothes in. Depending on how stained they are, I leave them for several hours or overnight. Then I drain and wash the clothes on the long cotton cycle on my front loader and use some tea tree oil in the rinse cycle to get rid of the gross bleachy smell.
