View Full Version : Keepsake/Memories Box
Has anyone ever done up a box to give their kids in the future? What did you put in it? Did you write down little memories on photo's? I'm looking for ideas to do something special as I was unable to do some of the stuff you normally do with babies like footprints etc.

I have a little box that Im collecting all sorts of bits and pieces in. Anything that might be interesting to her once she is a bit older.
I've got a box that I've put all her birth cards, birthday cards, invitations etc in. I even have deflated balloons from her first birthday! And the lolly bags from her first and second birthday too. (Do minty's go off??) I'll probably have organise it a bit better later on, its a bit all over the shop at the moment.
I've put a box together with so far,my ultrasound pictures, the ultrasound video,DD's hospital tag, birth cards,1st birthday cards, the candle off her birthday cake, and a letter that I wrote her.
I'll keep adding to it over the years.:)

I have a football ticket from when I first felt her kicking outside, it has my pregnacy test every U/S pic and DVD + I made a journal about my pregnacy every week for her with comic life program.

I have made one with her ultrasound piccies, christening card, hospital bracelet from birth, first teeth that dropped out (!) etc. Its full now cos the box is not big, but I am going to expand it. I have a cD of piccies taken by the school of her first year in prep, a book of all her 1st year art work etc. I can't believe she is 6.
Its a wonderful keepsake for your child IMO:smiliedance:

I think they're a great idea. I've collected heaps of stuff. There may be some embarrassing moments for a certain DS when he turns 21 and is presented with it all.
Thanks for that. It has given me some great ideas. The only reason I really thought about it was because I found the ribbon from her first dummy that has the bit to clamp onto her clothes. But now that I think about it I have plenty of stuff I can use. Now to just find a nice box for it all.

I just have a carboard box and I collect bits and pieces from events that happen in Hayley's life from birth to whenever...
I'll do the same thing with my next child.

i too have been keeping all the "momentos" but another thing that i do, i have one of those hard covered writing books, and since the day they were born ( ihave 2 DD's) each month i write a dear dd to them, and this lists all their stats, and just anything new that they have done, or new milestones reached etc etc. for the first 2yrs i did this every month, but then i changed it to yearly. reading back on them now (dd1 will be 7 in aug) i think omg, she really did that. i love it:smiliedance:

I agree with everyone's suggestions of old cards, photos etc etc...
I'm also going to be making up a "time capsule" for DD's first birthing...and while I plan on putting plenty of her baby stuff in there, I'm also going to put in a few bits and bobs that really have nothing to do with her. Things I think she MAY find interesting when she opens it up (at her 18th).
I want to put in a magazine or two (so she can laugh at our fashions and such), maybe a fashion piece (something sizeless...like earrings or a bag) that reflect the fashion of the time...maybe a current CD? I dunno...just bits and pieces so she can see what it was like when she was born...

I bought a newspaper on the day DD was born. It's in a box that I add to every now and then. I've kept the little suit she wore home from hospital, her id tags etc. The glass jar from her first try of "real" food... all sorts of little things.
I've also been doing a scrapbooking album for her. Its a calender one, with a page for photos for each month. I go to a really nice scrapbooking class where we are allowed to borrow all the fancy equipment etc. What I like about it is that is a nice, neat project with a distinct start and end. It will be of her first year.

Yep we have a "time capsule" type deal.
This was added to by family & friends at his first birthday with things for him to look through for his 18th.
We have letters from my Nan telling him many things & all about my Gramps. Then my Mum did one about my Dad who passed away 7rys ago. They then added little trickets that belonged to them both as well as a few things from themselves. Sad but i like that he will know about them etc.
People added various things like coins newspapers & magazines from his birth year, a bottle of Scotch Whiskey to a drinking glass marked for his 18th.
We have then added special coins we bought from the mint & a special stamp collection.
We also had everyone at his birthday which was also his blessing day write in a little book which has been added.
I then have photos & many other odds & ends in their.
We currently have it in a plastic container packed to keep it safe but when it gets to being closer to his 18th im going to put a lot of the things in a writing chest that was given to me by my Dad that was my great Grandda's & was given to him by the Masons as he was high up in the society in Scotland. I think its special for him to recieve this & i know my Dad would want him to have it.
Wow. After reading everyones replies i put her to bed tonight and went into my walk-in-robe and discovered something i didn't realise about myself before - when it comes to my daughters stuff, Im a hoarder. Im amazed now by the things I have kept in the last 16 months without even realising it. Its also given me ideas for other pages in her scrapbook album.
And yet all I have left from my childhood is one box with photos, medals, trophies and a couple of cards and teddy bears. Hmmm.....Im definitely going to be more diligent in collecting Bug's things now!
