Ok here is the situation. My G.F is almost a month late. She did a hpt when she was 12 days late but it came back negative. She won't go to the doctor's because she is 1 of these people who are scared of doctor's and has too much faith in the reading of a $15 hpt. She has been eating like crazy and she said she is always hungry. She has gained weight as well. what are your thought's? Keep in mind im a guy and i know as much about being pregnant/babies as i do about repairing a NASA rocket.

She could be, but a HPT 12 days after her period was due should be fairly conclusive. My advice if she doesn't want to go to a doctor, is to do another couple of HPTs. If she's four weeks late, then a test will definitely be conclusive and you'll be able to relax.

I would recommend that your GF does another hpt - they are very very accurate as a general rule. If it comes back positive, congratulations to you both! If it's negative i would suggest that you GF goes to the doctor anyway as a late or missed period can be asign of being unwell/stressed etc.

Thanks for your advise. She has agreed if she misses her next period she is going to get a blood test. But thats still over a week away.

Btw i know 5 girl's with kid's or who have been pregnant and every single 1 of them said they all came back negative on a HPT. All of them came up positive with a blood test so this is why im really suss about the whole HPT situation. 1 girl i know actually did 3 HPT's before it came up positive about 1 1/2 month's into it. hmmmmmmmm.

(I am one of those people who hates going to the doc and with my first preg it took me till 12 weeks before I saw somone with#2 I was at the docs the day after positive result)

Keep doing the test - it took me 4 or 5 test to get a positive and it had been months since i had had a period but i must have ovualted late. Does she want to be pregnant do you want her to be? Sorry if im prying

I am the same with HPT's - but eventually they will work. I would just let her wait till the next period is due, you said that is only a week away anyway. And that way you guys can know for sure.

However having said that a blood test can be negative too - I found that out the hard way:p But usually quite accurate. I dare say if she misses this period also she could very well be pg!

I would say, if you are not sure, act as if, she is, with the folate tablets and healthy preggy foods, and stuff, you don't want to regret it later is it turns out to be +ve, I don't like home tests, I also had 3 -ves before my blood showed +ve.

Yep i totally agree all round. And yep this is what i was getting at with the whole HPT thing as well. Its pretty common for girl's to get a negative reading.
