Has anyone heard anything about thawing meat in the microwave being bad when pregnant?

Hi there Trix
Everything I have read on defrosting meat has said it should be defrosted in the fridge until fully thawed, and never at room temperature. I have not however read whether or not it can be done in the microwave sorry.... I think the possible issue with that would be that the meat would begin to heat slightly as it defrosts and therefore bacteria could set in when it cools back down before cooking - but that would only be me guessing.
Let me know what you find out though as I would also be curious to know the answer to this one!
Cheers!

Hello Again Trix!
I just bought the book 'What to Eat When You Are Expecting' today and in the chapter on What's Safe to Eat - and What's Not, they have the following tip. I thought of you so jumped online to let you know...
'Defrost meats and poultry in the refrigerator, in cold water (changing the water every ten minutes), or in a microwave oven, rather then at room temperature.'
I would assume from that then that in the microwave would be okay.... I have heard this book has a pretty good reputation and even my ob mentioned this book to me.
Hope that helps!
Thanks a lot! That definitely helps!! I'm being a bit paranoid about what I can and can't eat, how to prepare etc. etc. I may be going overboard but i guess it is better safe than sorry! ;)

I know what you mean! I am exactly the same way and I know I am certainly going overboard - but I feel the same as you when it comes to better safe then sorry.
I went to a nutrition in pregnancy class where the nutritionist recommended thawing food in the microwave, so I'm sure it is fine. Just cook it straight away afterwards.
I've been paranoid about avoiding possible risk foods too, better safe than sorry!
Cheers,
Mea
