View Full Version : Crust or not to Crust??
my loveing dh thinks i am makeing our beautiful little dd a 'fussie eater' coz i cut off her crust!!!
she said she doesnt like it and i remember beeing the same. i was tolled- if u eat ur crust ur hair will go curly- (i had straight hair and hated it!! lol)
so i ate it and my hair is still dead straight...off the point...
does it really matter or not??? i mean its only crust.....
:D
I don't see the big deal about crusts myself. I mean, its just the outside bit of bread that got hotter really. Sometimes I eat them, sometimes I don't. It certainly doesn't bother me if Andrew does or doesn't eat them. Though at the moment he actually prefers them
My mother wouldn't bother cutting the crusts off, so I used to leave them in a pile on the side of the plate. Eventually, I grew out of it and ate the lot. I suppose not cutting the crusts off gave me that option.
I don't really understand this fight that parents tend to enter into with their children regarding food. I mean, sure, make them try new things, make sure they eat their veggies and fruit and are getting a well balanced diet but why should we force them to eat stuff they don't like?
I cut the crusts of sandwiches as i dont like them either:laughing: so i do it for my kids and instead of taking one bite out of it, i make them more with the crust off and they eat all of them...so they are actuall having more food cause X

I always cut of the crusts for my DD when I make her a jam sandwich but when I make her toast with vegimite I don't bother.
I find that when she eats her sandwich with a crust she seems to spit it out but if the crust are cut off I know she will eat the whole sandwich.
If she says she doesn't like it then you're not making her into a fussy eater.
She just doesn't like crusts that's all. Lots of kids don't.

My 7&8yr olds never eat their crusts, but I do try and make them eat the "white" crusts (down the sides of the bread). Dh thinks it's because I cut the crusts off when they were little, but I know that not many kids do eat their crusts as they are really tough compared to the rest of the bread. I don't cut my 2yr olds crusts off his sandwiches..........and he leaves them in a pile on the plate.
The way I see it is this........how many adults do you know who don't eat their crusts? I know of none, so they will all eventually eat them.
thanks!!!! didnt have much to say and it not really a big deal jst getting my posts up!!! hehehe:laughing:
Im 20 and i still dont eat my crusts:rolleyes: ...I cut dd's off when shes eating a sandwich, but if its toast, i dont really bother (i used to though) but the bread goes harder anyway so i dont think she knows the difference, everything goes in the mouth at the moment. I have to say that i've never even left the crusts on a sandwich once to see if she eats them, i just cut them off anyhow.
I never got the curly hair either, after all those years of being lied too:banghead:
I have never cut the crusts off my kids sandwiches but DD has NEVER eaten them. Some kids just don't like it. DS just copies DD so he doesn't eat them either.
It would really bug me that a friend (who's child was EXTREAMLY fussy) would chastise my DD for not eating her crusts. Firstly its none of her buisness, secondly its the only thing i have found the she won't eat so we are all entitled to have things we don't like.
I leave them on. If she eats them she eats them, if she doesn't she doesn't. I'm not fussed either way. I don't think you're creating a fussy eater but I wouldn't bother cutting them off.

I leave the crust on. DD eats it, and I think that by leaving it on now, it's encouraging her to eat them when she's older as well.
I don't want her to be one of those people who don't eat their crusts when they are adults. It certainly doesn't look very good when they're eating in the company of others.

I cut the crusts off my girls sandwiches. If I don't, they waist half of the bread.
If I am having a sandwich, and they are not, they will eat my crust.(i have never eaten mine - it is quite embarrassing when I am eating out)

I cut the crusts off of the boys sandwiches and then cut them into fingers and they eat more if i do that. When they have toast i leave the crusts on and they eat the whole lot. I figure which ever way they eat more i will stick to that way.

I cut the crusts off when Boof has his sandwich at lunch then he has them in little soliders like the sandwich ! Tis the only way he eats them & i dont care either way.
When he has toast though he will eat them as part of the pieces weird but as i said i dont care as long as he is happy :D
