On Monday 10/8 I woke up around 4am feeling very wet. Our heater had been going most of the night so I thought maybe I had sweated a little much but on inspection, I had been bleeding and maybe lost some fluid. Quick call to the hospital resulted in a drop off of Jet to Nae's parents and in to be examined. After being examined and sent for an ultrasound, there was no diagnosis that could be made. Sure I had bled but there didn't seem to be any complications and I was just slightly weird (in a kinda good way). Was able to come home Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday 11/8, I had been feeling a bit crampy most of the early morning but when timed they were very sporodic (sp?) so I decided to go shopping and get the last few bits I needed for my hospital bag etc and make sure I was ready in case we had another bleed or labour started. Continued having very sporodic mild contractions most of the day but thought they were due to me having a big day Monday and over doing it on Tues.

On Wed 12/8, woke again with the same mild contractions and toddled off to my weekly GP appointment. Had to duck into the supermarket but Jet fought me tooth and nail right at the entrance so carried him kicking and screaming back to the car. Came home to discover that I had been bleeding again, so was told to come back to the hospital to be checked out again.

Same examination and still being told that there didn't seem to be any complications, I was admitted to the antenatal ward for observation, just to make sure it didn't happen again.

Around 8.30pm I had the same bleed and was put on a CTG to make sure that bubs was doing ok in there. Was on the machine for about 1.5 hours and feeling semi regular contractions the whole time. At 11pm, the midwife left me be for the night and told me to write down the times of any contractions so we could see if they were indeed regular. They continued until around 2am, slowly getting closer together and at this point were around 4 minutes apart. I called the midwife back and asked if there was any chance of going down to delivery suite as I was pretty sure this was the real deal and I wanted some stronger pain relief. Was told that I could go down and be examined to see if I had been dialating etc and get the pain relief.

I arrived down in delivery suite at around 2.45am and was found to already be 4cms dialated. They then decided to break my waters for me at this point and gave me the gas that I had asked for. My contractions had gone to about 2 minutes apart at this stage and I was feeling little relief in between. We called Nae into the hospital but I knew it would take him some time to get there as he had to drop Jet off and make the 30 min + drive to the hospital.

After about 20 mins I felt the urge to push. I had no idea whether I was fully dialated or not but no one told me not to push and after about 10 mins of pushing, little Max arrived in to the world, no more than 30 mins after the 'start' of labour. Unfortunately, Nae didn't arrive until Max was 30 mins old. :( I remember saying 'no he is supposed to be here, your daddy is supposed to be here" but there was just no way he was going to make it when it all happened so fast.

They gave me the injection to help deliver the placenta but it didn't work and I was told that I needed to have my placenta removed manually. I was terrified at the thought of having to have the epidural / spinal in my back. They wheeled me down to theatre and apart from feeling the sting of the anasthetic going in, it wasn't as bad I thought it would be. Having the epidural actually took longer than the removal, so I was quickly finished and wheeled around to recovery. Nae and Max were brought around to recovery, ready to go to the ward once I had 'recovered'.

All in all, I am very glad to have been at the hospital whilst labouring seeing as the delivery happened so quickly. The only disappointment I had was that Nae didn't make it but I am now of the mindset that it just wasn't going to happen and am fine with it.

Great story Sara, Thanks for sharing:thumbsup:

I can't believe how quick it happened. WOW! Sorry your DH didn't make it, doesn't sound like you had much time to think about that though:)

Hope all is going well with little Max. Such a tiny poppet.

I just saw your update in the septemeber announcement thread and thought someone else must have popped.:o

I'm glad everything was fine and there were no major complications. After all that talk of c-sect because of your placenta you managed to avoid one:yelclap:. Glad Max is doing well and he arrived safely. I guess he wanted a few minutes alone with mummy before daddy got there.
