Hi there.

This is my thrid baby, due in March 3 but the doctors want to induce me 3-4 weeks ealry as my second child was nautral 10lb 10. I am happy with that but i was just wondering how everyone dealt with inductions.. My first baby was 26 weeker and was 758grams but was a c-sec due to pre eclampsia. He is ok has a few disabilities tho.. But yea my second was a big boy and still is. But we aint very big parent and my kids are all to the same father.. Weird how it is different as they all say...

Neither my DH or me are big people. DD2 was 10lb 2oz. I'm pregnant with no. 3 and absolutely will not be getting induced because of DD2's birth weight, nor has it been mentioned.
I would never choose to be induced personally.

I have been induced twice.
First induction was DD2 and I was post dates. She was born 10 days over and weighed 9lb 2oz.

DD3 I was induced due to several complications. I was induced at 37 weeks and she was 9lb 12oz.

I personally wouldn't induce purely based on the weight of a previous baby. Your Dr needs to have you get many sizing scans leading up to your due date. Lots of people have big babies then go on to have smaller babies or vice versa. As you already know, babies born early can have lot of problems. Babies born at 37 weeks can still have lots of troubles breathing and maintaining their temperatures and sugar levels.
Unless it is absolutely medically necessary I would be avoiding an induction.

My induction sucked and we found out too late that she was a big baby which made things even worse.

I will never be induced again and recommend strongly against it.

But having said that, there are others around who have had ok inductions so it's really such an individual thing. I wouldn't go there, though.

I understand where you are all coming from... I left some details out.. I went to labour by myself however needed inducing to help further the labour which then made it a 31 hours labour. But we couldnt go to gun hoe with induction coz of the c-sec as this was a VBAC birth. Kobi my 10lber he made thigns hard he was face forward instead of face down. and they had to do an episiotmy but it had to go further in the my backside as he had shoulder distotia (not sure how to spell it) but its where the shoulders get stuck. The doctors said they are my options either b induced at 37 weeks or have a c sec and that is at Newcastle hospital.. Where Tamworth wouldnt even give me the option they would c-sec me no matterwhat coz of my history... But thanks you for all your stories

when are you due? how can any dr predict the size of your next baby and give those options. im pregnant with my 4th baby, ive had natural birth, forceps, caesar and caesar again with this one. are you seeing an antenatal clinic or just your family dr?
i was explained the only reason why they would deliver a baby earlier than 39 wks is due to severe complications otherwise its a risk to the baby to be born b4 that. ive known several people that have given birth at term with large babies and one also had the shoulder thing and she was a very small girl but with the right medical treatment both mum and bub were fine.
maybe when it gets closer to your due time you could discuss about getting a sizing scan and go from there?
who knows your next bub may only be little, my 3rd was smaller than my 2nd.

my last baby was 1ounce off 9pd and i had the shoulder dystocia thing too and i'm not a very big person at all. the dr never said i'd need inducing for another, infact he said he can't wait to see me again because he thougth i had a great pelvis to fit that baby through.
every baby is different and i wouldn't risk a child's life because you are worried it may also be big. i know someone who has 4 children, each one of them completly different sizes.

Thank you for all your stories...

However. I am seeing clinic even in a different town as I live in Tamworth and they will give me no option but to c section me all because I had one with my first being the 26 weeker even tho i had a VBAC with my second... So I do all my clinics in Newcastle as they will let me go natural. But because my second child, altho he was big i think its more coz he had some breathing issues and they were worried bout Gestational Diabetes even tho my 28 week test and more test after i gave birth didnt indicate n such thing but he needed NICU for his breathing, I mean he was only there for the day n turn out to b nothing major. But I am only going by what my obst says in Newcastle as I wont have much to do wtih tamworth as they jsut want me under the knife..and yes even tho there are risks with bub being born early but they consider the baby full term from 37 weeks and n e thing before that is cosinder prem, But even in sayin that they would only induce me if bub was a decent size at that gesation so i guess if bub was big wasnt big enough they would let me go to 40 weeks. and I guess they just consider me High Risk with my history as i see a high risk team in newy as well. I dont know they r the doctors i just take there advice,.. but I do have growth scans every 4 weeks from 20 weeks I dont even know why i need them that often but im not really complainin as i ge tto see bub. But yea I guess it is what they see fit but thanx again for the stories..
