You might like to try going to sites like Nurture Nappies and Darlings Downunder (I don't think I can link to the sityes, but just google the names and you'll find them :)) and have a look at their trial packs or starter packs. They stock a nice wide range of brands to get you started so you aren't going all over the place to get different nappies.
Some of the best nappies to try as a start are Baby Beehinds (Magic-alls or their fitted bamboo or hemp nappies) and Itti Bitti. Both are easy to get hold of, reasonably cheap ($25-30 a nappy) and have a well earned reputation for quality and fit.
Once you've got some nappies that work for you you can start experimenting and trying some of the WAHM sites and some fancier nappies. Some of those to try (though some are hard to get hold of!) are:
Bonnibuns
Fluffy Bubs
Baby Bullfrog
Wild Child
CGR
Abby Gro

The list is almost endless, but those are a few to concider.
