Hi there. Moving to Brisbane in December and my sister lives in Springwood. My son will be going to school in term 1, so need to enrol him (Looking at Rochedale State School?). Could be looking at buying a house so just wondering what you guys know about the area as a whole. Facilities, crime, tidiness, etc. Anything really - including opinions. Thanks

It's a good area, school has good reputation.
We have chosen Chatswood Hills school in Springwood which my daughter will be starting next year.

We just moved to Springwood about a month ago. I thought it was one of the "better" areas of Logan but it seems i was wrong.

My insurance company informed me they typically won't insure you for contents in this area unless you've got an alarm system, secruity screens, deadlocks on all doors, etc.. because it's just such a high risk area.

So i guess crime is bad in the area.

In reality its just down the road from Woodridge which is where alot of undesirables live. You have a lot of gangs and the likes around there. I've been told Springwood is much the same yet i'm still to witness it for myself.

There are alot of downsides to living in Logan. If you are looking at buying Logan has the highest rates in SE QLD and it's not like you get more for it. You only get one bin compared to all the surrounding councils, you still have to pay to go to the dump.. amongst other things.
Public transport isn't very good in Logan if you've got to rely on it.

I think if you are willing to live in Rochedale. You are better off looking one suburb back in Eight Mile Plains.. at least it's in Brisbane so it's managed by the Brisbane City Council so you've got better services...You;ve got the busway too so you've got alot of public transport.
If you've really got your heart set on Rochedale s.s it's quite literally down the rd.

Interesting to hear your opinion Harvestmoon... however we have lived here for around 4 years (give or take a year away). Never had a crime happen to us, our neighbours, and have never seen a gang om the area. Can only speak from personal experience, not from hearsay from others.
We did live in Eight Mile Plains prior to moving here - and they also have the no deadbolts no insurance rule - not sure why, but crime is certainly not bad here speaking from our area.
Hubby uses public transport daily to get to work in the city - bus from the end of the road, not as frequent as the EMP busway, but he's happy with it and it works for us.
Yes you do have to pay to go to the dump... but the Council does free kerbside pick up 2x a year, so we just clean our gardens etc in the week or two before that, and put it on the road, along with any other junk we're getting rid of and it is collected for us - so why do it yourself when they do it for you!Y
es you only get one bin, but I believe they are looking at changing that system after an area referendum last year, and lets face it - we should all be more environmentally aware and try and recycle, reuse and not throw out (things like worm farms/compost bins are great for the environment and save substantially on waste).
The schools in the area are fantastic, and best of all you don't have to drive to get to them, there are enough small schools covering the area to offer plenty of choice.
The area is very family friendly with lots of parks, great walkways (especially the Springwood forest park and Daisy Hill parks - we go walking every weekend).
Sorry you are not enjoying it so far... but give it a bit longer than a month and you might find the area has a lot more going for it than you realise :-)

HarvestMoon, i used to live in woodridge when i first moved to brisbane. I think that Rochedale and Springwood are a lot better. As Josie jo said, there are lots of things for the family to do.. Also the public transport is very reliable in the area.. I rely on it every day as i dont drive.. and it runs every half hour.. and thats either way to garden city and to springwood.. then in the morning when everyone leaves for work it runs every 15mins.. Your house might not be close to where bus runs but there are 2 buses that service our area
