View Full Version : returning something to target w/o reciept?
Do they do this? I bought an activity centre thing for my friend in the sale a couple of weeks back and have just found out she went out and bought one herself today :( I hadnt had a chance to give it to her yet! Sooo will target give me a refund or credit note? I didnt keep hold of the reciept coz I didnt think I'd need it  I know, stupid me! argh so annoyed with myself!
cheers
I'm not sure if their policy has changed but they used to give store credit if you returned something without the receipt. Maybe give them a call before you go just to make sure?

I think without a receipt they give you a credit note. Ive returned something with out the receipt there before they were pretty good about it. :)
ok cool credit note is fine as I have stuff on raincheck anyway I can pay for them with it....
You may get a rude suprise...I have a funny feeling that they have recently changed their policies, and without a receipt, they give you nothing (unless it's 'target' branded...otherwise you could have purchased it anywhere)
My only other suggestion (and this depends if it's exactly the same as the one your friend purchased) is to tell your friend what's happened....and if she's already opened her activity centre, ask if you can use her receipt to return your one, and therefore be able to get her something else (or use it for you ;))....painful, but at least you won't end up with an extra activity set!

I think that different stores have different scan codes so if you, for example, had bought it at KMart and they tried to scan it at Target it wouldn't come up in their database - even though they use the barcode on the box.
That could be absolute baloney though so don't place too much on what I say!
I would ring and ask - from what I understand you can get a store credit, and if you paid via eftpos or credit card you could show them your statement.
They should give you a credit note, but remember without the reciept you wont get what you paid for it but what it scans at now, For example, if you paid $20 for it and take it back, when they scan it to do a credit note and it comes up as $5, that is the amount they will give you credit for. And i agree with Chesby i think there are safeguards for stopping people ripping off stores.

That is Targets new refund policy.
"With your receipt:
We will offer you an exchange voucher or refund.
Without your receipt:
Target Brand Merchandise - We will offer you an exchange voucher for the current selling price of the goods.
All other branded products - Target reserves the right not to offer an exchange or refund for non-Target brand products."
Looks like you might have to gift it someone else that has a baby or see if your friend has her receipt and can return hers maybe?

You'll find a lot of places generally don't do refunds/exchanges without receipts as if someone stole the goods, they are then getting cash for nothing...and the store looses money.
oh bugger! It will be on my bank statement, will that be sufficient enough?? I already have one, otherwise I would keep it for myself! And I dont know if i can use her reciept coz it actually costs more now than what I paid for it....what a pain! I'm so annoyed with myself!

i use to work there and remember something that said that you have to prove that the item was bought there and how much you paid for it. if you paid on a card rather then in cash take your bank statement there and show them that was the purchase, but even so, they might just say no sorry. they dont have to refund/store credit you if they dont want to. its completely up to the manager at the time.
You know what...I personally (and other may think I'm wrong) would still ask your friend for the receipt and return it...and I'd give her the difference between what you paid and what she did....you're not in this to make money, it was purely just the unfortunate case that she purchased the good before you could give her your present!! Target will still be able to resell it, you're not out of pocket and your friend will be happy that she got a 'bargin'

I hope that they do it for you.
surprisingly alot of stores actually have the items in their databases and if you go to one store with an item from another, if they stock it you can actually scan it and come up with a price on it... not every item mind you, but alot of them.
i've done it before when comparing the price of something...
