View Full Version : "Just because" gifts for guys
Hey dads of bubhub!
So how easy is it to buy for girls?
Flowers, jewellery, a nice new perfume, massage, clothes, chocolates etc . . .
So what do us girls buy our guys to say 'I'm thinking of you', or 'I love you'??
Suggestions appreciated!!

For me it's not that easy to buy things for my partner. I hate getting generic stuff like flowers and perfume.
She obviously likes it when I do buy flowers and such, but I feel like a fraud. So quite often I'd get things that I THINK she would like!
Unfortunately, 9 times out of 10 I'm utterly wrong .
She usually hates what ever painstakingly thought out prezzie I've gotten her. I'm pretty sure she just wants me to give flowers or perfume... now.
As for getting presents for me. I'm very, very hard to buy for. I either want things that are horrendously expensive or so technical she wouldn't have a clue what the correct thing to get is!
So a compliment and a cuddle is enough for me :)

Nawwww!!! That's lovely!! :goodvibes:
Hmmmm . . . really going to have to think about this! Guys are so hard to buy for!
I'm not a dude but I might be able to help:yes:.
When I want to say thank you to DH I either organise a picnic lunch out somewhere I know he'll enjoy, get his favourite foods and cook up a yummy lunch/dinner/dessert or whatever or just give him a massage or something so he knows I'm grateful of everything he does.
Here is a list of things I've bought him over the years.
Aftershave, coffee machine, tickets to the soccer, made mini scrap books, ring, spontaneous holiday away, massage voucher, socceroos shirt, photos, watch, tool box, tools.
Thats all I can think of now. The things he loves the most wouild be any photos or scrapbooks I've made and yummy romantic dinners. For our first year wedding anniversary DH wasn't home until after DS was in bed so I had time to put away all the toys and things, lit candels and cook a seafood feast, I got dressed up and put on some Micheal Buble and had some wine. Was one of the nicest nights we had and he said he felt really special that I'd gone to so much effort.
DH is a bit feminine so he's easily wooed LOL but yeah hope this helps :goodvibes:

Oh, I agree Morish!
I'm easy. Chocolates/flowers/jewelery/perfume/pampering stuff and I'm sold!
People ask me what to get for my b'day and I tell them anything 'girly'.
Though, even with such clear outlines DP doesn't buy me presents unless I point to it and say "buy me that one... now" or buy myself christmas presents and leave the receipts on his computer desk :D
I did manage to totally nail a 'just because' present for DP, I saw an awesome poker set on ebay and I bought it and DP LOVES it. I didn't think it out though, I saw it and just knew that it would be perfect, its amazing and I just couldn't have waited till his birthday to give it to him, I didn't manage to wait for it to be delivered to tell him what I'd bought him :D
I think that worked as a just because gift because it was that I saw it and thought of him, rather than trying to think of something to give him.
My DP is very difficult to buy for, so I dont get him birthday and christmas presents, I just buy him a couple of things during the year when the inspiration comes to me or I see something, because when i TRY i always fail.
****On another note, if you read the book "the five love languages" and work out how your man expresses and recieves love (acts of service, quality time, physical touch, words of affirmation, gifts) you can work out what kind of gift or gesture would speak to him the best.
My DP's love languages are quality time and words of affirmation - so the best thing I can do for him is plan an evening together or write him a letter. He's kept every single letter I've ever written him, including ones I've written drunk on the back of a drink coster! Because the words themselves are the most valuable gift to him.
Maybe that could help also?****
A few ideas. Will post more as I think of them:
1) Guys like chocolate too. What type is his favourite ?
2) Magnetic screw-driver set if he's the DIY type and doesn't have a set already. A nice Toolbox if budget allows.
3) A nice T-shirt or socks or undies.
4) Favourite meal always goes down well.
5) Picture frame with family pictures for his desk at work.
6) A new wallet
7) If he likes reading get him a book written by his favourite author.
8) A coffee mug with a "Worlds best dad" comment or some witty comment/picture on it.
9) BBQ tools if he likes to BBQ
10) A new Shaver/razor if his is getting old or needs the "newer" model.
11) A wad of IOU's. Use your imagination here. He gets to hand them in for treats.
12) A 6-pack of his favourite beer.
13) Car or Sports magazine(s) or National Geographic subscription or similar.
14) Sports gear if he plays a specific sport. Could be simple like sports socks or a squash ball or more expensive depending on budget, froms sinkers to a new fishing rod , etc.
15) A nice keyring
16) Bottle Opener.
17) Unconditional sleep-in.

I am also a large pain to buy for as my poor wife will attest. She normally asks me what I want but I do like it when she surprises me with something I have not asked for
I really like the just because gift idea!!!
Hopefully most guys would be happy with a fav meal, date night (movies and a meal without the kids) or a sleep in to show you are thinking of them!
However if you need a gift idea the ones above are excellent but it really depends on the guy.
Good luck

For years my fallback present for DD's dad has been a good bottle of scotch. Preferably his favorite but there are several single malts that he likes which are hard to get in Australia.

Well it was Friday night, so all the Dad's must be having a boy's night out  Mostly females posting!
I find if you pay attention in advance and listen to your partner and know their interests, then it shouldn't be too hard to buy for them. Most have interests outside of family and work and there is usually something you can get, even a magazine subscription.
My hubby has a birthday the month after Christmas, so I have to think twice as hard!
Failing that, they never mind if you buy nice lingere, put it on and say 'look what I got for your birthday/father's day' etc:devil::devil6::laughing:

There is actually a shop down here called "Gift 4 Guys" that has lots of random crap in it and you would be bound to find something your partner likes  actually, some of the stuff there I'd buy for myself
I got my dad a holden hubcap clock with red LED lights for him to put in the shed for his bday, he was stoked
Depends on how 'guyish' your partner is I guess.. my dp would be much happier if I went to a games/techie store :p
13) Car or Sports magazine(s) or National Geographic subscription or similar.
 Xanthic is on the money here.
Mens Health Magazine was one of the handiest presents I recieved this year.
So Moorish - what did you get for your better half ?

Lol. Quite clearly im haunting forums atm.
My "Just because" list includes:
Posters of his favourite Transformer characters.
A3 sized book of the solar system(Amazing pics and lots of info.)
Little but thick book of the universe(Again, amazing pics, lots of info.)
Leggo sets
Nice decorative pocket knife
Necklace
A ring that spins(These, apparently can't be resized so make sure you have a definite size of hubbys finger.)
Down here they stopped shipping Dr Pepper, which is my DPs favourite fizzy, so I hunted some of those down for him too.
Or a little note you snuck into his wallet when he wasn't looking that says "I love you" etc, that's always nice.

Leggo sets
Oh I love Lego.
I got a Big Lego Tow Truck for chrissy 1 year.
You can never be to old for Lego.
So Moorish - what did you get for your better half ?
Mmmmm . . . donuts!!
He loves hot, fresh ones from Donut King so I grabbed a bunch and headed home after running some errands!
P.S. - better half? You meant other half didn't you. Yes you did lol!! :D
Really I was looking for some inspiration for future gifts and there are some great ideas that I'll keep in mind!
One thing I have started doing though, is every now and then when something comes to mind, I pop a little sticky note inside his wallet with some nice words on it. Things like - "I love the way you play with the kids - you're a wonderful dad." And - "Thank you for working so hard to provide for our family, I truly appreciate it". And "I love you and I'm proud to be your wife" etc etc. I would be nice to see his face when he reads them but he opens his wallet every morning when getting on the bus and always sends me a message to say thanks or that it made him smile etc.
Sometimes that sort of thing has more value - DH certainly likes it! :)
