View Full Version : How to help my DSS
I have a wonderful beautiful DSS, who just turned 8. We received a phone call this avo, saying his mum had a stroke and they were about to turn life support off.
DH is going to pick him up tomorrow.
I just want to do everything I can for my DSS, while giving his space. Has anyone been through this before?
As much as I didn't get on with his mum sometimes, at the end of the day she is his mum, and he has just lost her.

Oh my god, how terrible. Your poor stepson.
I don't really have any advice- I'd just like to say that you sound as if you really care about him, and I'm sure that just having you and his dad around will make a huge difference.

Aw, how awful!
At his age, I guess I'd be thinking about offering silent support, hugs etc, rather than trying to talk about it. I'm not sure about how good your relationship with him is, but unless it's a really good one, then in his grief he might turn against you because of your perceived role as "replacement" mum (not that you are, just thinking how he might perceive it after losing his own mum).
, I am very lucky I have a great relationship with him, and has aways been that way. but I'm not his mum, and can't stop crying for him.
Big :hugs:
I don't know what to suggest other than lots of love and understanding. I'd also look into a child psychologist - the school might have a suggestion or your GP. I think the wait for those services is very long, so try & book in and if you don't need it closer to the time just cancel.

i second that, definitely talk to his school, they should have access to a counsellor who he would be able to see in school time. failing that the GP would definitely be the next port of call.
