View Full Version : Confused about Maybe Baby
I'm on my first month of using Maybe Baby and think I should be Oing around Wed/Thurs this week. I've been using Maybe Baby each morning and continue to just see pebbles each morning. Yet for the past few days I've also been testing at night (after no food/drink) and have been getting a clear ferning pattern (but also with some pebbles). Has anyone else experienced these two clearly confusing sets of results? :banghead: Can anyone think why the morning/night results would be so different? And which one should I consider to be the most accurate reading?
Hi Chicken
I found the same thing, I had drunk water though, so I figured perhaps the water had an effect. The instructions say its fine if you've had water though, I kinda gave up
would be interested to hear what others have to say to . . .

im not sure, but i do mine every morning before eating or drinking or doing anything in fact, and the instructions say that its the best time to test as nothing can really affect the result, so by doing this i find it good as i have consistant results. hope this helps :D

Hello Chicken. I have experienced this. I always get pebbles in the morning. If am I going to get ferns, I get them in the afternoon after not eating or drinking for 3hours. It is okay to have water though. On CD10-11 I got partial ferns in the afternoon. Then on CD12-13 I got full ferning. 3 Days later after the full ferning I ovulated. Full ferning indicates ovulation could happen in the next 3 days or so and IT DID HAPPEN to me. So dont waste the opportunity and BD. The most reliable way to definetly know you have ovulated is by taking your temperature every morning and mine confirmed I ovulated 3 days after full ferning (on fertility friend). Have a look at my chart. PF = Partial ferning and FF = full ferning. I had watery CM on CD16-17 and I ovulated on CD16. All the best  .
Thanks everyone - good to know I'm not alone. Mymiraclebaby - does that mean you stopped testing maybe baby in the mornings altogether?
I sent an email off to Maybe Baby this morning and they just replied saying that first morning testing is always the most accurate and that I should use this result instead of the evening ones. I just hope I get some ferning on the morning results pretty soon, as I know O is only a few days away. I'll be BDing in the meantime just to be safe.

Chicken, I would not disregard the ferning in the afternoon if you know you have not eaten, drank fluids, brushed your teeth etc in the last 3 hours. Lots of women on bub hub have had this experience. I would treat any ferning as a possibility that I am about to ovulate and take advantage of that. Look what happened to me.

Yes I did stop testing in the mornings altogether. If I tested in the morning and then the afternoon, I would always have a negative in the morning (pebbles) and ferning or partial ferning in the afternoon. It turns out that it predicated that I was going to ovulate correctly because I did ovulate 3 days later after full ferning in the afternoon.
Thanks MMB. Its just sooooo confusing. I feel like the partial ferning I'm getting is accurate (based on my normal cycles) so I've been surprised that the morning results have been showing nothing. Surely it wouldn't be ferning if there was nothing there? Hopefully with my OPKs and charting temps, I'll get to know how it works after this first month. And you're success story has given me the inspiration to keep checking the afternoon results.

Chicken, temping and cervical mucous are the most accurate indicators of ovulation. Temping will only tell you after you have actually ovulated (because your temp rises after ovulation), but CM can give you an indication earlier. OPK and Saliva tests are a means of cross checking, so I would rely more on what your temps and CM tell you about your body. But, take advantage of any sign that you may ovulate and BD. All the best and :fingerscrossed: .

I, too, disregard my morning tests and rely on the afternoon ones. I get partial ferning for two days then full ferning for a day and it appears at what is ovulation time according to my temps and cm.
An update.....
I think I may have found a reason for why I'm getting strange morning results. I always got up and went straight into the bathroom to do Maybe Baby, with my manky morning-breath mouth - sorry TMI!! But I think this may have been affecting the results. So the last couple of mornings I've also done a test after waiting about half an hour (had my shower etc). My manky morning mouth continued to give me pepples, but my saliva half an hour later showed ferning.

Does anyone else have an issue with too much ferning?! I have been using Maybe Baby on and off for a few months, and there seems to be no ryme nor reason to the ferning, in fact, I get partial and full ferning several days every week - even when I know there is no chance that I am ovulating.
I too have been doing it with MMB (Manky Morning Breath!) and wonder if it could work the other way as well - causing me to get more ferning?
Very annoying, as I am having real trouble knowing when I am ovulating, as periods are coming every three to four months.
