My DD is currently 4.5 months old and getting very frustrated that she can't move. She has been rolling over tummy to back since 3 months, and back to tummy since 4 months, and will sit unaided for a few minutes (since 16 weeks). Whenever she is on me she is always attempting to crawl off, but the second I let her go she doesn't keep the weight up in her legs and goes splat.

What I'm wondering is, how early did your kids crawl? Should I expect another couple of months of this, or will she take off soon?

Ds didnt crawl until 14 months! So it could happen anytime.

My kids didn't properly crawl until 8-9 months but once they were sitting up (6 & 4.5 months) they learnt to bum shuffle to get what they wanted, they weren't so frustrated then.

DS is not much younger than your DD, he has only *just* been able to roll from tummy to back (and only once so far), he "swims" on his tummy without getting anywhere, but he can also wriggle around sideways (if I leave him facing north/south, I'll come back to find him facing east/west) and wriggle just a tad, maybe 3 - 4 inches, forwards if he's after a toy.

He'll balance (not sit) in a sitting position for half a minute using his hands for support, but can't support himself beyond that.

He stands stands stands stands all day long, as long as he has one or both hands holding on to something.

As for crawling.... DD didn't crawl until she was 9 months old (never even showed signs of it until the week before), and yet by 12 months, she was walking. So I'm not at all worried about DS not reaching that particular milestone.

My DD started creeping or shuffling kind of like a slug/worm about a month ago (6.5 months). She is obviously now 7.5 months and still not crawling properly. She rocks back and forth on hands and knees but hasnt kind of figured out how to get momentum. We have wooden floors though so every time she tries, her knees slip out from under her, so I do think this is stopping her development in this area :(. It doesnt seem to worry her though as she gets to everywhere she wants to VERY quickly!

Five months and one week. She was standing and cruising at the same age.

Each baby is different, and you should just follow their lead.

She is 13 months on Saturday, and not walking as yet. She's VERY close, but she's too good at crawling

It all evens out!

DS1 and a friends son are a week apart. When they were both 5 months old they were both getting up on all fours and rocking back and forth looking like they were going to crawl. DS1 started crawling 2 weeks later. My friends DS started crawling at 8 months.

It happens at different times for different babies and even though they might be showing signs of crawling, it still could take them awhile.

It is just one of those things that happens when it happens. You can never pinpoint a time...

At 3.5 months bubba was going crazy wanting to crawl, he'd get his knees under himself and then 'crawl' forwards grinding his face into the carpet and grunting and crying with frustration...

By 4.5-5 months though he discovered if he laid on his back he could kick along the ground (like an upside down caterpillar) which was hilarous, because he'd lay on his tummy see where he wanted to go, flip onto his back and scoot across the floor, then flip onto his tummy to check where he was, then turn onto his back to continue - and he's get stuck in corners and not be able to turn around and cry and cry.... was great!

He started tummy crawling at 6 months, though he'd still back crawl because it was faster, but as soon as he got his tummy off the ground he's been crawling like crazy - by 7 months he was very VERY mobile crawling and by 7.5 months he was crusing.

... and... now 2 days before he was 9 months old he took 6 steps. (he's still working on it, that was a week ago, he's getting better every day, soon he'll just be running around the house... bit sad really, my little baby is gone :()

He's been on a mission since he was born to get up and get moving.

Good luck with your detirminded bubba!!!!
