Hi guys
Just wondering at what age did you lower the base of your bub's cot? DS has just started to pull himself to standing and while I don't think that he can reach to pull himself up in his cot at the moment, it got me thinking - when should we lower the base? I mean, it seems like we should lower it when he CAN pull himself up but I was just interested in what you guys did KWIM?
Thanks for your input guys

It says on mine to do it before the bubs can sit up, or at 5 months of age - whichever comes first. I would think that if your little man can pull himself to standing, its time to do so.
We lowered the base when bub started getting more mobile - but not yet pulling up to stand in the cot. Didn't want to take the risk of him figuring it out first and ending up on the floor! I think he was about 9/10 months, but my memory is a bit hazy!
I lowered my cot as soon as she could pull herself up into a sitting position as well. I didnt want her working out she could stand up and see out!

I did mine when bubs was 4 months old, just to be safe.

We lowered the cot when bub was about 7 months. Just sfter she learned to sit on her own, but before she was mobile.
My cot says to lower the base when bub can sit on their own or at 6 months. Just took us a little while to get onto it!

We did it around the 6mth mark Boof was sitting up etc by then so with him being a very tall boy thought it best we lower it to be safe.
Mind you now even at 16mths he hasnt even tried to get out which would be easy for him consdering his height & the fact that even in the lower position he is well above the rail.
We use a grobag, Jade can't stand up in it yet, but I guess it's only a matter of time until she figures it out.. thanks for the reminder that i should put her cot base down too.

The general rule is as soon as they can sit up you lower the base of the cot....

Hey Ange yep it says on almost all cots that once they are sitting by themselves that you are to lower the cot. I would do it asap if he is pulling himself up - you dont want him falling out and ending up with a bump on his head like my little Cooper  Although he didnt get his bump from falling out of the cot its still not fun and i have heard of this happening to a few little ones. So time to lower it i say!! Talk soon chic....havent seen on msn for a few days!

Hey Ange,
I would lower it now. It won't be long before he figures out how to pull himself up on the sides. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Like the other girls have said, i'd lower it now, better to be safe than sorry!
Although to save myself the hassle of having to lower the cot base later on...when DH and I were setting up the cot, we put the base at the lowest setting then, I don't mind having to bend a little, and besides, once we got the mattress in there, it's no so bad! :)

We're modest too!
I lowered mine today after reading this thread.
When I look at the cot now, it makes me a bit sad... it sort of looks like a big kids bed now.. my baby is growing up. *sigh*
But I can rest easier knowing that she is a little bit safer.

Ours has always been lowered because DH didn't know that it could sit higher. He is pretty clueless.

yeah hubby has alot of gold moments. :banghead: By the time I saw that he had put the cot together and it was down low i just couldn't be bothered. I heard enough bad language come out of his mouth and didn't want to put myself and him through the stress again! I know he was just putting a cot together but it sounded like he was making it from scratch, growing the tree for wood and all. If i wasn't 9 months pregnant at the time i would have done it myself.
