Hi there,

I'm looking into getting some prefolds just to use when bub is a newborn. I have some questions however & would love some answers - pretty please!

1) Approximately how many would I need? I will be using MCNs once they fit & have a variety of cushies, ittis, happy heinys, thirsties & eventually BBHs.

2) Do I need the newborn size - Size 1 - (Measures approx 34x34cm unwashed/30-34cm wide and 28-32cm long approx after washing) or will Size 2 be fine (Measures 40x40cm unwashed/36-40cm approx both long and wide after washing).

That's really it... I know I can continue to use them so if I get some answers on how many I need & whether it's okay to go Size 2, that would be great!

TIA :flowerz:

I bought them for both babies but actually only ended up using them as boosters in BBH
the number you need would totally depend on how often you plan on washing :)
I am trying to remember how many nappy changes new borns go through??
6 a day, does that sound right??

I haven't been through cloth nappying a newborn yet but have researched for my own bub due in december.

Newborns go through 6 - 10 nappies a day. So with daily washing you'd need an absolute minimum of 12 but most recommendations I hear are about 20+. What I've learnt with my 1 yr old in cloth is the more the better. You don't want to be worrying about having enough dry nappies on top of everything else.

I think if you are going to mcns as soon as they fit and are looking to use prefolds right from newbie its best to stick to the size 1. They'll suit better as boosters later.

I bought the size 1 Booroi Bamboo prefolds.
They are really good. I just got 12 of them because I have a drier and had some eenie weenies as well. I found that I never ran out. I still use them now in my small BBH covers. I just fold them into a rectangle and place it between his legs. I think it works surprisingly well and I have a big chubby boy. Once he starts crawling it may be different then.

I would stick with the size 1 prefolds as the size 2's would be far to bulky on a newborn . We are using size 1's on our newborn at the moment and I also use them as stuffers in our pocket nappies which she is just starting to fit into now ( she is 4.2kg s now ) .
You would need at least 20 if thats all you were using in the early days but if you are using them in combination with disposables and/or small MCN's a dozen would be plenty .
you can put them in the dryer if your running low so you shouldn't run out .
